Leveling my action opinions

So here's how I'm leveling my actions, off the bolt raceways. what do you think? I know there is some opinions on whether or not actions must be level, not trying to start a debate.

Well fact is I'm thinking of selling some, not sure how much is too much $ wise. They are somewhat expensive to have them machined. So they are guaranteed square.

They'll be close to $50 shipped. May come in slightly under but that's a pretty good estimate. Individually machined, in the USA.

But it seems to be the most trusted place to level the action. The level-level-level is clumsy to use and I never trust that the action portion is square.

They're machined on 4 sides to ensure flat surface, then you just use your most trusted scope level. It's heavy bar stock to so it sits nicely against the raceways. So far it works in a savage 7mm, rem 280, win model 70 25-06, rem 7mm and above. I don't know if the lug dimensions change with smaller calibers, I don't imagine they do. I'll try it in a rem 220 swift soon. I imagine if fits it should fit most. Don't have a ruger to throw it in yet.

If anyone is seriously interested, I'll get a head count and have some made.

I saw Mike Davidson on Long Range Pursuit using a piece of bar stock, so I had my cousin machine one for my 7 mag. Works great!

You may want to check some other machine shops. You can buy precision ground barstock in 6 foot pieces for less than $80.00 + shipping.

The 1/4"x 1" size should be a good fit in a Remington 700 bolt race.

These are not the dimensions being used. So far this has been compatible in three different actions. Also I can't say as to the precision, steel anymore is diff. Lot to lot. but this is checked. Thirdly, don't know if it will give you the weight needed to overcome the spring loaded release and sit in the he action nicely, weight helps. And fourth I was just guessing as to the price I'm going to get 12 made to try and cut down on it and we're penciling it out now. You're welcome to get whatever you want, I'll get $$$ soon. I can always tell you more and cut it but hard to raise it... You know.

Yeah, I checked into it. We looking at a couple options, precision tool being one. It's hard to find the beginning width and shipping is a killer. I feel like I still want the two sides machined flat to gaurentee level. Thanks for the site I always bookmark tools and supplies.
