7 wsm or 7 LRM

I am currently in the process of building a new rifle and I can't decide on exactly what to build. I have narrowed it down to either a 7 wsm or the 7 LRM. I have a Krieger 27" 1-9 twist barrel. My goal is to get around the 3,000 fps mark with the 180 gr bergers. What do you guys think?

I would go with the LRM. I think 3000 fps with the 180 is a little out of reach for the WSM.

What is your opinion of the 7LRM from an accuracy standpoint compared to 7 wsm?

The cartridge will not make a difference in accuracy. Accuracy depends on quality of components and smithing as well as good load development and finally the shooter.

I have a 7mm wsm 26"brux 9" twist. Its a freek bbl in that I get 7mm stw velocities out of it ? 69grs of Re# 19 behind a 139gr sst produces 3500 FPS . 65.5 Re#22 3160fps 162 gr A-Max . But how accurate is it ? MOA at 600yds . I need a better trigger ,but this caliber for me is a keeper. nothing wrong with my Chronograph. tested other known guns through it that day It measured those as to what they should be.

You'll get the best long range performance from the cartridge employing the most powder capacity. The WSM is a fine cartridge, but it will not run with the LRM when comparing apples to apples. The WSM might, emphasis on might, get you to 3000 fps with a 180, but the LRM will get you to an easy 3150 fps with the same bullet.

one of my shooting buddies is using 65grns of RL33 behind the 180 berger in his 7WSM match rifle and is bumping 3000fps with no pressure in a 27" tube. so yes it is possible

I can believe that. RL33 would work even better in the LRM. To reach 3000 fps with a 180 bullet in the WSM is pushing it to the limit and with most powders and barrels it's not gonna happen. It's much more doable in the LRM.

i guess I better let him know that it just won't work eh. Gosh, to bad he has been doing it all summer long since we started playing with the RL33. And here I thought we were on to something. I probably better stop shooting 3000 fps in my edge with a 300 grain SMK also because you probably say its not possible either......young fella...beleive it. RL 33 is amazing stuff

1. Availability and quality of brass available.
2. LRM brass proprietary to Gunwerks.
3. Cost of Brass triple that of Winchester.
4. Barrel life?
5. Let's assume 300 fps muzzle velocity difference between the two.

I would assume you did little research on the 7LRM as to the cost before considering that case vs 7WSM.

I just got new 270Wby from gunsmith last week cost me almost $2 per case and my 270 case cost 1/4 of that. If this is your first build might want to pick something little easier on the pocketbook.
