338-378 Weatherby and 300 gr bullets

I am thinking about getting me a 338-378 Weatherby Accumark rifle. I want to be able to shoot the 300 gr bullets to their potential. Will the Weatherby rifle do this well or should I look at going to a 338 Lapua?

I have read as much as I could find on this subject from the 338 RUM, 338 EDGE, Lapua and Weatherby. I really like the MK V action on the Weatherbys but just want to make sure the big bullets will work as designed in this gun.

I used to have a Accumark in 338-378 weatherby. I was shooting 300 grain accubonds out of it and it shot sub MOA with the first couple loads I tried. Recoil is a bear though. 2950 without pushing it too hard.

Muledeer another member here has one for sale I think could probably get it for a decent price if he still has it.

Make sure you order it with the Weatherby Accubrake...

I'm a big guy, and recoil doesn't bother me, but muzzle brakes are great. My BOSS on my 7RM A-Bolt II makes it kick like a .243... It's nice.

Mine had the accubrake and it's still a monster.

I have a accumark 338-378 my RL25 load with 300 gr smk is going 2920 fps. worked up a load with RL33 and hit 3,020 fps ith 300 gr smk

Well I ordered a 338-378 Weatherby. I am supposed to pick it up tomorrow. I am going to use it on my Elk hunt on the 20th. I am not going to have time to work up any loads for this gun and will have to use factory ammo. The only ammo available is going to be the 250 gr Partitions. Has anybody tried these out? How did they shoot? What is the realistic range that I can expect to use them out to?

Being that this is the first new rifle that I have bought, I plan on doing as everything the right way. What is the opinion on Weatherby's break in procedure and what kind of accuracy can I expect out of this gun with factory ammo?

Nobody can predict how it will shoot. It may right off the bat shoot 1/2 groups or it could shoot 1 1/2 . I have had good luck with weatherby factory ammo but load everything these days. The 250 gr parition is a excellent bullet it just does not have the high BC of a SMK or Berger, doesn't mean though that it is not capable of taking game way out there. Shooting long range is going to be all about how well you shoot the rifle and if it's repeatable.

The 250gr Partition is a far more accurate bullet than I ever thought. While I was waiting for the 250gr Accubonds to re-emerge, I bought a few boxes of the Partitions to fool around with.
In no time at all I found two different loads that produced sub 1" (3-shot) groups at 300 yds. Needless to say, I was quite surprised.
