I have a brand new M700 sps in 270 win. I replaced the stock with a B&C medalist with full length bedding block. Trigger set @ 3#. Took the gun out today to shoot for the first time. I tried Rem Corelok, Win power point , Win Sup Bst , Win power max, and Hornady custom SSt all ammo in 130 grain. The Win Super X power point was the only ammo that would group. I got just under an inch with it at 100 yards. All other ammo was horrible. Nothing would do any better than about 3 in at 100. Realy surprised that the cheapest ammo grouped best. Anybody else surprised that only the 1 load would group? All others were just nearly off the page and flying all over. I noticed that some of the ammo was realy hard to chamber , even some of the super x power point that shot well. What would cause this factory ammo to be so hard to chamber ? Should I give up on the other ammo or is there something else I could be doing wrong ? Leupold rings and bases also and a brand new Nikon monarch 3,4-16x50 scope. I don't think optics are an issue.

I was just wondering if you were cleaning it in between different brands of ammo. When I handload I always clean in between different brands of bullets. You could be getting a lot of copper fouling which could be messing up your groups.

More often than not, factory chambers have the most slop and chambering is usually a non issue with just about any factory ammo. I'm a bit surprised, but you may have one of those rifles that needs a lot of bullets down the barrel before it settles down. The cheapest ammo has nothing to do with accuracy in any particular rifle. When I was 21, I shot factory everything. I thought the more the ammo costs, the better it should shoot. Not so.
Send the target to Remington and see what they have to say.

I am sorry to disappoint you but if your gun is the 349 dollar rifle that I think it is, you should be glad you found a factory ammo that groups at an inch. A buddy of mine has one and accuracy is not that great, even with handloads. I think it is due to the cheap barrel. I think some guys here have been able to make it group nicely by re doing the crown. I think an inch to two inchea at 100 yards is the best this gun will shoot without any work on it.

Did you do any barrel break in on the rifle, or just start shooting? That could be part of the problem. But if you are getting sub MOA with factory ammo, that isn't too bad. Without reloading, it will probably be difficult to get a whole lot better than that. But properly breaking in the barrel will help too if you haven't done that. The more rounds down the tube, the more accurate it should get.
Sounds like my Rem 700 sps. 1" on a good day at 100, 3" was the norm with handloads.
I did the action and put on a Brux and it shoots 3/4" at 200 with ammo that was laying on the bench. Sometimes you get lucky with a factory gun but not me.

This is not a 349$ rifle from wal- mart. I don't expect this to be a 1/2 min gun with factory ammo. I did run my bore snake through after each 3 shot group for about the first 20 rounds. I didn't clean before each ammo change however. I was just surprised that the cheap $20 a box ammo shot the best. I do intend to hand load for the gun soon and I expect that it won't be too hard to make it shoot under an inch with hand loads. Thanks for the input guys

You are going to need a cleaning rod and some Bore tech eliminator and scrub the barrel to get rid of the copper. I hate to tell you but a bore snake isn't going to do it. If you keep it clean you will have a good shooting rifle, especially when you start handloading. Your gun will tell you what it likes, and it might just be the cheap ammo, so if it does go with it and stretch it out there.

Yeah I know I need to get some different cleaning stuff but I've had pretty good luck with the bore snake on other rifles. I don't have a problem
