Well, I've settled on this load for whitetail season. It's a rather mild load but considering my shots will be 100 yards or less it should be perfect. I shot the left target first, moved the scope a few clicks to the right and shot the right target. Looks like we're good to go!

I shot numerous mulies with a similar load. Grouping was about the same as yours but I was using the 240 gr. XTP in .4295 with 100 grains of Pyrodex RS out of a side lock Hawken. All were one and down.

Not a picture poster but my last 2-3 shot groups went in 2 holes at 100 yards with a 290 Barnes TMX on top of 100 grains of Blackhorn 209 fired with a Federal 209 shotgun primer in my CVA Accura V2

I called that good to go and packed it away (after cleaning and a swab of TC Bore butter of course).

The morning of the 15th, I'll have it out, loaded and primed and ready to rock on.

I think the next step forward (really back) for me will be a sidelock. Being a centerfire person for many years, I'm finding the front stuffers to be more interesting. Don't get me wrong, I'll never divorice my centerfires but the smokepoles are very enjoyable.

I just bought two T/C Hawken rifles at a garage sale for $150, with one being a .50 and the other a .54 Both rifles wee in great condition, except that they hadn't been fired and cleaned in 16 years. The owner passed a couple years ago and the wife finally started selling his hunting and shooting things. Her garage sale looked like a Cabelas store!

I'm NOT a fan at all of bore butter. Speaking of which, the old boy that had these rifles, must have actually packed it in the bores. It took me six (6) hours of cleaning on those barrels to clean out the crusted and caked bore butter.

I didn't care about keeping the .54 and just sent that off to a new owner in Maine. However the .50 I'm keeping (reverting back also) and I've already shot that rifle. Its very accurate shooting a .490 and pre-lubed patch. It was actually FUN shooting and smelling 2f again.

Got the .50 zeroed, then shot the following group a 100yds
