I shot my first antelope 1973 while a guest of the USAF in Montana. Since then there have been a number of antelope hunts with generally good results and a few nice heads on the wall. But this year I promised I would hold out for a boomer or come home with unfilled tag.
This time the plan worked out as I was blessed enough to take a goat that scores 85 2/8 SCI and 84 B&C green. Passed a lot of buck antelope in the previous three days but as my buddy says about whitetail hunt, you can't shoot a 150 if you take the first 120 that walks by
Hunted in Freemont County near Lander in an area with miles of hay fields, corn and sugar beets. Good food sources probably had a lot to do with the great horns.
Hardly a long range shot (220 yards) and the 7mm Mag and Berger dropped him in his tracks. We thought he was a solid 82 when we shot and were pleasantly surprised when we got hands on. Kinda the opposite of ground shrinkage, but antelope are really hard to judge in the field
Cant wait for 60 days to pass to get the B&C final official score. Taxi thinks he will score well above the 82 minimum after the drying period.
Will be hard to top this buck.
