i was at the local gun shop the other day.had the owner4 try to find a factory rifle with a "bull" barrel in a magnum 30 caliber. remington sendero is way out of my price range.i really like savages.savage lists a tactical(110fp i think)with a plastic stock,300 win mag, bull barrel 24".list price $439.anyone have any experience with this rifle or another that wont break my pocket like the remington?thanks.

the few I have head of have all shot well , Iwould definatly change out the stock though the composit one from Savage SUCK.

no, have a couple of remington's that i'm redoing. never owned a savage but my understanding is they're the best value for the money.

I've had an old Savage mod. 99 in .308 many years ago, but we won't get into that. Last year I purchased a model 16FVSS - stainless fluted bull barrel, accutrigger in 22-250. I mounted a 6-24 x 50 scope that I bought on eBay for $50.00 (I'm ashamed to say). With factory Winchester Supremes, I consistently hit crows out to beyond 300 yards, my longest shot being 460 yards off the hood of the truck with my jean jacket as a shooting bag. Two weeks ago, I purchased a Weather warrior, another stainless in .270 WSM. Bought a couple of boxes of cheapo Remington 130 grain Core-Lockts. This thing is shooting 3/4" groups.....at 200 yards (with a 10 minute break between shots). Am I sold on Savage, you bet, they may not be the shiniest, but I can dig a gun that shoots like that off the shelf. My votes for best off the shelf shooters go to Savage, Tikka (pre T3 versions) and CZ (Brno).

30-06,
If you buy a Savage M10/110 you won't regret it! I brought a M10FP in .308win in august last year. I never used any kind of barrel breakin procedure and accuracy with Remmy 150gr core-locks was about 1MOA for the first 100rnds (about 15 cleanings). After that, the barrel seemed to settle and I loaded some 168gr matchkings, Accuracy then droped under 0.5moa with favored loads at 100y.
...now for the stocks....
The main problem is the fore-end flexes and touches the barrel when given a slight squezze, which wouldn't be good for accuracy. but it's easy to fix with some wet and dry sand paper. I also heard that epoxying a couple of old ford 351ci push rods (said to be an ideal leangth) into the channels under the barrel works great for stiffening the fore-end. Also the Length of Pull is pretty short and could be nasty in .300mag if your tall (I'm 6'4" and with my scope all the way forward it was still brushing my eyebrow under .308 recoil, I now have a 2" thick sillicon pad taped to my recoil pad for length /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif ).

In closing, From what i have read and personally found, The savage will shoot just as good or better with hand loads than the remington for 1/2 the price. Also i might add that apart from Remmy 150gr core-lokts my M10fp wouldn't shoot Any factory ammo well, second best was Winchester 168gr BST's and they averaged 2" at 100y for 5 shots. 180gr Power-points were UNBELIEVABLE with 3x 3shot groups averaging 6" at 100y /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif anyone else experienced this?

if you do get a savage, just remember you can always get a adams and bennett barrel for it for @100 when it doesent live up to your expectations /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

100 percent disabled vet lots of back and neck surgeries pluse pins in my shoulders. Just got a savage 300 win mag looking for a stock that will help with the recoil and not send me to the poor house. Any ideas love to shoot. Thanks for you time.gun)

Thank you for your service Sir. First off i'd pull off that that barrel and install a match grade barrel (I have soo many that come to mind). I would then rip off that savage stock and fit it with a nice McMillan A5. Happy shootin'

i have a savage 110 in .300 win. mag. with a bull barrel but for some odd reason it has a non-detachable mag it is VERY accurate at 200 yards i can put it wherever i want easily especially if i have the bipod attached. there great rifles especially for the price my dad always said his .308 marlin express was the baddest in the family the night i bought that .300 i took that title.
