What brand of scope do you prefer

My question to all you long range hunters out there, witch brand of scope do you prefer and why?

Night force
Leopold
Vortex
Nikon
Simmons

What ever scope it is, why do you prefer that scope over others and why?

I like Vortex for the price,that is what I have been buying.If I could afford them I would buy Night Force.

What I prefer and what I can afford are two TOTALLY different things.

I prefer to run all Nightforce NXS scopes, but that's not gonna happen...Ever. Unless I win the lotto or something...

Zeiss Conquest scopes for the money are about the best there is. Vortex are right up there, too.

I like Sightron SIII, very nice glass, I love the MOA reticle and it tracks well. I think it is comparable to much higher priced optics.

I have had good success with Nightforece 5.5x22x and Huskemaw 5x20x scopes on my long range rifles. Both have excellent glass, are very durable, and have superb turret repeatability. I prefer the more compact size, and lighter weight of the Huskemaw on my 10 pound rigs (6.5x284)that are carried a lot and used at 1000 yards or less. I like the NF on my heavier, extended range rigs(300WM, 338Lapua). These tend to be used in more stationary hunting/shooting situations.

I like the older leupold stuff. New leupolds seem cheap to me.

I have a couple swarovskis and really like them. Considerably lighter than the nightforce scopes.

Never had a NF but certainly wouldnt be opposed to one.

Too heavy
Too $$$ by a WIDE margin
Too cluttered of an eyepiece.( Too many lines; dots...etc. I can barely see what Id be aiming at)

Burris Timberline scopes are the best little scopes for the money, and are versatile from air rifle, rimfires, black rifles to mountain rifles. 4.5-14x32 AO is the best value in its class, and I have it on my CZ 452 American. I have the 3-9x32 on my FN FAL. Klingon tough and Vulcan logical. Highly affordable. They are not a rebranded outsourced product.

More expensive scopes really depend on your preferences and use. However, the Burris Timberline scopes are really in a league of their own. They are not made by OLW in Japan as are many other value oriented scopes such as Vortex, Sightron, Weaver, Bushnell Elite.....all of which are OLW built.

Without any hesitation at all I say my Schmit Bender PM2 5x25 is the finest scope that's ever been made. That statement however could easily say "ANY" SB scope. That's not only my personal feeling but SOCOM feels that way based on the amount they spend on their purchase orders, most places that sell them are out but will allow you to backorder, and perhaps most importantly this websites own statistics support the above statements. I personally went through this sites classifieds for optics and in over 500 ads there were only 2 SB's. There were scores of leupolds, nightforces, trijicons, nikons, etc. etc. etc.. But 2 SB's. Once you've shot one everything else is for sale.

The last four scopes I've bought are from Horus Optics. Two Falcons with H37 Reticles and two Raptors with H58 and H59 reticles. The scopes are Japanese with a level of quality similar to the higher end Burris or Sightron scopes. The Falcon is heavy with a steel tube. I've not had problems with any of them.

Why Horus? Because I'm sold on the "Mil-grid" reticles which give target knob accuracy without knob twiddling. No other reason, but that's reason enough. They're precise and fast when used with rangefinders and wind instruments with either a computer or range cards. I use the Kestrel 4500 with ATRAG software. I don't recommend them for target shooting at fixed ranges or for hunting at ranges where estimating (guessing) drop and windage is good enough.

I've been shooting for about 50 years and have collected quite a few Burris Leupold , B&L and Bushnell scopes plus a few of several other brands.. I've quit buying firearms. I have more than enough. Before I found the Horus scopes my favorite long range scope was the Leupold 16x40 Mk 4. It is light, rugged, and has a huge elevation range but target knobs are much slower to use than the Horus system.

im on a fixed income so i buy what i can afford. Mostly leupold and nikon. I have no doubt those 2k scopes are great but theres food to buy too.
