Hey im new to this forum and it seems like this is the place to be for advise on getting into long range hunting and its equipment. Im newer to the game but have done some dabbling in it, a lil prairie dog action at 3-400 yards with my off the shelf 223 remington sps varmint with factory hornady ammo is all the long range stuff ive done on a consistant bases. Being from mn theres no long range big game action 200 yards at most. Well now that im living and workin in nd i wanna get myself a nice 30 cal big game gun, was thinkin 300 rum or 300 wby to be capable to get me another elk at some point and maybe a bear as well. I was looking for advise on a good custom rifle that i could comfortably carry around all day in the western mountians and be able to sit down at the range on the off season and do some plinking/target practice. Any adivise on a recommended gun maker/builder ect would be great. Money is not a real issue but under the 5k mark is best. Thanks Guys:D

Cooper topped with night force nxs, may not be ideal on weight, don't know what your target weight is. Unless your set on the 300's , there may be a better option. Those are big kickers in a "light" rifle. I'd get a cooper in .280ai put a nightforce on it and go shoot. There are cheaper. Options, no doubt but since you asked for custom...

I'll have a 7mm savage lrh topped with vortex viper hs/lr. 100 down the tube and a recipe to go with it. Well under 2k and more than capable of wacking an elk. F/S

You could save a lot of money if you buy a Savage of any calibre you wish.
Or on the other hand give Tactil Rifles a E-MAIL. How much money do you want to pay?
As for the best? you have 100 opinions.

Ive though about doin the factory route and do some upgrades too, money/price really isnt an object but 5k or so without optics is what i would like to keep it close to. I will shoot them and email...do they have a webpage that you know of? Thanks for the info

Unless you have been around enough custom rifle to know EXACTLY what you want, look around and finding someone wanting to sell a custom in a caliber you want. Try it and if you don't like it sell it. If you buy right, you should be able to get almost all of your money back. Chad Dixon of long rifles has some really awesome picks of his work especially his stock work.

Bruce Baer (Baer Custom Riles) in Willow hill pa

Anyone consider using Tactical Operations rifles like X-Ray 51 or Alpha 66 in 300 win mag? Both using Remington action, but Krieger barrels.
