Remington sendero 7mm magnum

Have a Remington Sendero 7mm magnum - 26 inch barrel-that I am setting up .Be intersted in hearing from anyone who has some experence in what has proved suitable in

1) Scope and mounts
2)Commercial Ammunition :Comercial loads that have given good performance from this rifle
3)Hand Loads : what wgt projectile and powder type that has given good performance

I note there is enough balisitic energy to make a kill out to 1000yrd but the most common range I will shoot will be 300- 800 yrds . Target animals Red Deer- slightly lighter than Elk

Any help so I avoid pitfalls and mistakes will be appreciated

I have the same rifle. I had a night force direct mount and a night force scope on it. Highly recommend this setup on this rifle. Another guy and I shoot 160 accubonds with 60.5 grains of imr4350. Seat about .010 off lands. Nobler brass. CCI mag primers. Shoots 1/2 MOA. Most people shoot bergers with retumbo or H1000. You might try that as well. Hope that helps.

Great rifle. I have owned one 7Mag Sendero and the barrel started going bad at around 1300 rounds. It still shot 1/2" on most days but was a PITA to clean the bore.
In the beginning I played with the 120/130/140gn bullets but finally settled on the 150gn Ballistic Tip, 67.0gn of RL22 and CCI BR2's. This load was super accurate (.2-.3") and the rifle killed everything I pointed it at.
I traded that rifle for a Remington 700 PSS in 7Mag. I tried to get it to shoot the 168gn Berger but had no luck (or accuracy). Finally gave up on the Bergers and tried the 150gn Ballistic Tip using various powders. When I tried IMR4350 - bam! there it is, 3 bullets 1 hole! The load (63.5gn) was actually .5gn over max as listed in Nosler#6 but it shot great and velocity was 3230fps. I was using Rem 9.5M. If you decide to use this data, work up to your rifles max.
I took a 350lb black bear in Virginia with this load at approximately 15 steps! I was on the outside row of a corn field, on my knees when he came slipping through. I hammered him through the shoulders and he never knew I was there. The bullet broke both shoulders with complete penetration.
When my IMR4350 ran low I switched to IMR4831 as I had 3.5lbs. Best load was 64.0gn with Rem 9.5M. Accuracy was .178" for three shots. I chrono'd the load three months later and it averaged 3138 fps, accuracy was .441" for 5 shots.
As for rings/mounts: I like the Leupold 1-pc Std Long Range Base and Burris Signatuire Rings (Medium), with the additional insert kit. This system effectively extends your rifles range to beyond 1000yds (in most cases).
I like Leupold scopes best, own a couple of these and own a couple of Nikon's also. The Nikons are good glass but I've read they don't have a lot of MOA in them. I have used/dialed my Buckmaster out to 1100yds, so I know it will make the trip. The Monarch that I own, I have only shot to 600yds. I will be trying it to 1100yds soon.
A NightForce would be awesome but, Man that's a lot of money! May be someday, if I decide to get a custom rifle I might spring for one. Right now I can't see putting one on a $500-600 factory rifle. To each his own I reckon.
Factory fodder I don't invest in. Reloading is one of my two hobbies, shooting is the other! Good luck. JohnnyK.

I purchased one used in 2010; I'm the 3rd owner. The first two didn't use it much. When I purchased it there were already Burris bases with Burris Signature rings (my favorite) and a Sightron SII scope. It performed very well with those in shooting but this year I swapped for a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x44 with target turrets. Originally it had the 0/0 inserts in the rings but I changed to -20 to the front when I swapped scopes since I moved to a target turret and to give me more elevation to play with.

I've tried a couple of different types of ammo, but for factory ammo I use the same thing as the previous owner - Winchester Supreme 140gr Ballistic Silvertip. As my hunting/shooting partner says, it's a laser with this ammo.

Other than a trigger job it's a factory rifle, and one of my favorites. I used it this year to get my 9 point whitetail in TX.

It will probably take me a few weeks to get all this together . I will let you know the result and what I decide on . Interesting what you are paying for your rifles . A third the price of what they are here in New Zealand . Scopes appear to be around the same value .

One further question
Using a canted ( sloped ) rail . Has any one found that to be an advantage when shooting out to 1000yards?

Canted bases are really only needed if your scope lacks the internal elevation adjustment to get you to 1000, but it won't hurt anything to have it.

Go ahead and figure that you'll need at most 25 MOA to reach 1000 with a 7mm Rem. If you don't have 25 MOA in your scope you'll need some added elevation from your mount.

Any help so I avoid pitfalls and mistakes will be appreciated

1) Get the best glass you can afford. Budget really is the key here.

2) At those ranges a zero MOA mount is all you need. EGW makes a nice heavy duty 0 moa rail that will work well for you well worth the money.

3) I really like the TSRW rings. I have them on four different rifles and they've been great for me.

4) Float it, bed it, mount up your glass and shoot it.

5) Winchester Supreme 140gr ballistic silver tips worked great for me for everything from prairie dogs to coyotes, to very large hogs.

6) HSM makes some good VLD loads for the 7mm Rem as I recall so they'd be worth looking at. So far all the HSM ammo I've shot performed well; but haven't shot any of it in 7mm Rem.

7) A muzzle brake is not a necessity but they sure do make shooting more fun if for no other reason than allowing you to spot your own impacts even at relatively close ranges by reducing muzzle flip. There are a number of very good ones on the market including some built by our forum sponsors.

I owned a 7mag sendreo back in the 90's. One of the best shooting rifles I have ever had the pleasure of shooting! Divorce got that one,but oh well!!! Ok! Enough on that. The hand load I used in it was 63.5gr of IMR 4350, 160gr seirra Gamekings,cci 250 mag primer. The sendreo loved it! As far as factory load I shot federal premium,loaded with 160's. I had a 4-12 leupold with leupold mounts. All I ever done was a trigger job an the rifle would shoot 1/4 to 1/2 in at 100yrd all day long. Hope this helps!!!!

Nick- a sendero and leup 6.5-20 answer most questions here. mine has shot 168 berger handloads with re-19 very well . have not tried any factory. if you go to gunbroker you will find that the senderos are going for 1000-1200 here now.

hey guy, I met this guy the other day and he says he has a sendero sf in 7rm for sale. he says he wants 1100.00 but he wont tell me the round count through the barrel, either because he don't know what it is or he has a **** pile through it. what are your opinions on purchasing one of these rifles used. I have been looking into buying one for awhile but I never really trusted buying a used rifle. any suggestions
