Just wondering what kind of Velocitys I should expect out of my new 24" 7mm rem mag shooting the 168 and 180 bergers with either retumbo or H1000

I have a few down the barrel and was getting around 2700fps with the 168gr with 67gr of H1000 and around 2800fps with 70.5gr of Retumbo and I was already having crater signs on the primers but no flattened primers, sticky bolt or ejector swipe marks.

Just wondering if its cause of slop in the firing pin and not over pressure hopefully as I would like to see some more velocity out of this setup.

Action is a new Stiller Predator LA

Any advice from someone shooting this combo would be appreciated.

Thanks Brett

I have no experience with the 24" barrel and have not tried h1000 yet. Finally got 2 lbs.

My results are :
Rem 700 Sendero 7 Mag 26" barrel
64.2 of H4831 (at 64.5 bolt was starting to get sticky)
WLR mag primers
Hornady Brass
.040 off the lands
2860 fps.
.6 MOA

7828 was getting closer to 2900 fps

Your's does seem slow. I have two 24" barreled 7mm RM's. One shoots 2875 with 63.0 gr R19 and the other goes 2940 or so with Retumbo(71gr).

I agree. Maybe it will get faster with more rounds down range. Already has about 75 rounds through it.

Also. With the 168 Berger VLD classic hunter, If I loaded to SAMMI length of 3.290, it would be jammed about .020. Maybe it has a shorter throat. I'm going with about .040 jump.

H-1000 is probably the better of the two for a 24" barrel. You are well under the book max of 69.5 with your h-1000 load. I would proceed carefully looking for other pressure signs. When I had the factory 24" barrel on my 7mag I shot 68 gr H-1000 at 2800fps. I think it topped out around 2900 with that powder.

Well I did get a chance this evening to run some more loads over the chrono and its more of what I'm looking for. Only thing is there's just some slight bolt face ejector swipe on the cases but it doesn't look severe.

These are 180gr and 168gr Velocitys with Retumbo

168 cases

180gr cases

Any thoughts?

All of those primers look fine to me? You will see them get flattened with sqare edges around the perimeter when you are on the edge.

i'm shooting a 7RM on weatherby action with 26in barrel
I run 3000fps without signs of pressure

My load is
rem cases
CCI 250M
168VLD Match - 0.010 in land
70.5gr H-1000
Max in my rifle is 72gr

Forgot to mention....
I'm using H-1000 batch from 1.5 years old (old batch what is not hot like the new one)
I to have marks on case primer area, but my max is 72gr and i'm shooting 70.5gr.

Load few more rounds in increment of 0.5gr and when you see flatened primer, or sticky bolt, or hard to extract case.... THAT IS YOUR MAX.

Make sure you back off one grain and play with seating depth to tighten the group.

Check the powder batch number to be the same.
If you have few different batch number - POUR ALL OF THEM IN ONE CONTAINER AND MIX THEM WELL - and then work your load up. (you will have consistent spread, group and velocity until you will finished all the mixed powder.

DO NOT MIX DIFFERENT BRANDS OF POWDER. use just H-1000

If it will help, my old 7mag (1967) has a 24" stainless barrel from the factory. With 71grn of H-1000,CCI 250 mag primer,168 Berger or 168 SMK it will shoot lights out!!! It love's that combo! Workin on a new load, H4831sc, I'm at 65grn's, slight sticky bolt, but the old girl like's it!!! Hope this helps!!
