Well ive been tuning up my Savage .308 model 11/ Nikon Monarch 4-16-50 bdc and my DPMS .308/Nikon Pro staff 4-14-40 bdc for deer season. Took them both to 425 yards and then took my DPMS to 525 yards. Now im not getting 2" groups or anything (Yet) but I was hitting center mass on the target. Like the title says its a start. Im stoked!

Hey man thats awesome! I just started shooti.g further than i have before a year ago. Its exciting and you shoyld be stoked!

I think i can go out to about 600 yards and then im going to have to spring for a good scope. Ive been considering the usual suspects Nightforce, Meopta, Vortex etc.... but im also considering the Burris Eliminator lll. Anybody have one or used one? Impressions?gun)

My hunting partner and I start about this time every year gearing up for deer season and we always ask the other guys in the hunt club if they would like to come as well and their answers are always the same. "Im not rich I cant afford to practice." These are also the same guys who complain that We either shot all the big Bucks or they complain that they couldnt find the Big Buck they shot (im leaning towards they didnt hit the deer to begin with.) My partner and I have been top dogs in the club for 3 years and it ****es them off but we take our hunting serious and they obviously dont. I dont think they could hit a deer past 100 yards. LOL.
Im not bragging im just stating the obvious which is practice does matter.

Congrats and welcome to the money pit :D

No experience with the other 2, but i sure like my NF scopes. They function flawlessly, glass is excellent and they are extremely rugged field optics.

Im leaning towards the Vortex or the Burris which is the Riflescope with the built in laser rangefinder. Like you said a money pit but hey I enjoy it.

Between the two, I would pick a good Vortex. I've seen some video on the Eliminator and it looks cool, but... it seems not to let you customize your ballisitic info. From what I read, ballistic data is based off factory loads. Can't input environmental conditions such as density altitude. Also, many manufacturer's advertised bullet BC's are exaggerated. I also wonder how well the internals will hold up to repeated recoil? How long is the warranty? Don't mean to be a party pooper, but these are big questions for me.

I think you're better of with a good hand held RF like the Lieca 1600 and a scope with BDC turret. Check your drops at ranges out to 700 yds and put one of these on the elevation turrets...

Good shooting

I think the new burris eliminator has a downloadable ballistics system. That said I would still get a vortex.

Its funny when people complain about not being able to afford 100 rounds a year for practice but they will spend 4-500$ on their gun rack for their atv or go on a guided hunt that costs more than a months wages.

All legitimate questions that should be asked.

Absolutely correct.gun)

Went out the other day, and thought I would see what I could do, with rock chucks as my target. This is what my systems are doing. You can check out our website at www.huntthedistance.com Video: [ame="http://youtu.be/GkQqQH1HRd8"]Chuckin Rocks - YouTube[/ame]
