Went out today to try shooting some long distance today. I have never shot 1200 yards and beyond until today. It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot about the wind in the short amount of time that I was out there. I started off at 1000 yards just to see where I would be hitting. Kestrel showed 3 mph of wind coming in at 220 degrees. Punched it in and let the first shot fly on a cold and clean barrel. Hit pretty much in the center of the bullseye! I was pretty excited so I moved back to 1200 yards and got set up. I have never shot this far before but was pretty confident. Shooter showed that I needed 29.4 MOA of elevation and 1 MOA left for wind with a 1.5 mph wind coming in at 220 degrees. I hit half way in and out of the 10" orange circle in the center of my target. I was getting pretty excited now. I moved back to 1300 yards and set up. Shooter called for 33.2 MOA elevation. I got settled in and pulled the trigger before I was really ready to shoot and it went way right but still hit the target. I go settled back in and fired 4 consecutive shots which looked really good. I went and measured them and the group measured 4.8"! I was really happy with that! So I got bold and jumped back to 1780 yards. That is when the humble pie was served in large quantities. I shot the first shot and thought that I had hit my 24"x24" plate as it was rocking back and forth a little. I fired again and it went right, third shot went low and then I quit. 0 for 3 at one mile haha. I am still very happy with the results that I had from the first time firing at those distances. The picture of the target is below:

1st cold bore shot at 1k(only shot taken at 1k): almost dead center of the 10" orange circle

1st and only shot at 1200: hit just right of the 10" orange circle (I was happy with that so I stopped there)

1st shot at 1300 yards: I pulled it and it is the hit furtherest right on the target.

4 shot group at 1300 yards: 4 hits just below the orange circle.

Nice shootn.
Tell us what you were shooting. ie gun, ammo(factory or reloads).
Keep shooting at those long ranges and keep us posted on what you see.

You must of had so much success because the scope was mounted so perfectly. :D:D
Great shooting, what was the charge and MV?

It's 93 gr of H1000 going close to 2800 fps. I have done a lot of testing with this load and if I shoot at any temp over 80 degrees the ejector mark will show up. Anything below 80 and its good. I was going to go with a lower grain load but this shoots so good. I just have to not shoot when the temps are too high is all.

The new kestrel 4500 has been one of the most important purchases on this journey.

Thanks. Remains to be seen if I can do it again haha. I will keep posting my shooting and post what I have learned from it. The mile shots were definitely a humbling experience. You had better be on your A game for a mile or more. If you are off on anything by just a little bit then you are going to be off at your target by a lot. I missed all three shots at a mile. I missed one shot by about two feet because the wind changed on me by just a little bit.

I am by no means an upper level ELR shooter as I have just started. I was in no way ready for what confronted me at 1 mile but you have to start sometime. I want to be effective at around 1300-1500 yds. And the best way to do that is to practice out further than your intended goal.

The most humbling part about all of it is that I wouldn't be doing what I am doing or have the knowledge about ELR that I have without all of you guys and this website.

And man it sure is fun!

Great job it funny until you shoot at long range it is no big deal and then when you do and start hitting what you are shooting at you can't get enough.
