Hello from the Deep South. I have been reloading now for about 6 years and I cut my teeth on a Browning A-bolt 270 WSM. It's been one crazy ride since with different calibers and rifles looking for one hole accuracy. After a couple of years I finally realized that the little buck head on the trigger guard did nothing for accuracy and I traded in the Browning for an indian head in 308. I really liked the 270 WSM though and now I've come full circle with a new Savage Model 11 FCNS. I'll be toping it with a Vortex Viper HS 4-16x50. I plan on using 140 Nosler Accubonds as my main hunting bullet and I have Magpro, 780 Supreme, IMR4350, and H4350 on had. Any thoughts or comments on this set up would be appreciated. Any pet loads out there?

I have shot a 270WSM for over ten years and have used many different powder and bullet combinations. One of my first loads that produced great results in my Winchester Model 70 was 140 grain Accubond and 60.5 grains of IMR-4350 in Norma cases with WLRM primers. That load has shot a 1.5 inch group at 300 yards. I have shot it at 100 yards many times with .3 to .5 inch groups.
I wanted to get a little more velocity so I have tried RL-22 with the 140 Accubonds and I was able to get more velocity and close to the same accuracy. In the last few months I have started working with Retumbo and the same bullets. The Hodgdon web site show the max with Retumbo to be 71 grains. They also show that 780 Supreme produces the higher velocity.
I have also shot Magpro which produced great velocity but not great accuracy. You have some work to do developing the best load for your gun. My best load may not be the one that works best for you, but with the powders that you listed you should be able to get the results that you are looking for.

Yes I do, and I'm looking forward to it. The ballistics are off the chart for this caliber. For a hunting rifle it's tough to beat. According to the ballistics calculator I can zero at 250 yards and only be 2" high at 100 yards and 3" low at 300 yards.
Get some 165/175 gr Matrix VLDs (.277 Caliber Rifle Bullets Built for Accuracy | Matrix Ballistics) and stretch it's full potential.

With the Savage you'll need to verify your twist rate, earlier one's are 1-11 and you'll be having to sling 140's with a 1-10 you'll be good to 150gr for sure but being from the deep south you may not have enough elevation to stabilize the 165 Matrix which is unfortunate because the 160+gr bullets is where the 270 WSM really starts shining!!
I use a lot of Retumbo in mine but I'm set up with a long barrel and throat for launching the 165's. My first barrel was a 1-11 and I shot a lot of 140 Accubonds and 140 Bergers, I also shot a pile of 150 Ballistic tips which I still load in it when I spin that barrel on. I use the Retumbo for everything 140gr and up and R17 for lighter bullets like the 110 TTSX or Vmax for short range varminting.

I vaguely remember an earlier thread that an LRH member was able to stabilize the 165 in 1:10 .270 Win at sea level.

There are some that have stabilized the 165 at sea level with a 1-10 but there are also some who have not had them stay stable, it's right on the bubble I think.

The best advice I can offer is go with Norma brass. It's worth every penny. I went through several bullet/powder/load combos. Settled in on one with h4831sc and 150 Bergers would get several flyers. I sorted Winchester brass and even culled about 18 percent and still inconsistent. Switched to Norma same load groups got smaller and no flyers. Th 150. Berger is a great heavier weight bullet for the caliber.

In my RBros 270WSM I'm getting great results with WW brass, Nosler 140 gr. Accubond, Fed GM210M primers, and near max load of H1000. When working my way up in powder charge, POI was near the same for all charges.
