Have done a lot of searching of post and can't find answer I'm looking for:
What would be minimum barrel length to push 140 hybrids to 3000+ fps out of a
.260 without having to push pressure limit of an action? Planning on using a short action but not worried about oal length as will probably single load anyways.
Thanks, Jeff

I have 26" barrels on all of my 6.5's. Though I tend to agree that 26" is a good starting point for best performance from the 6.5's, I think you will have to go to at least a 30" barrel to get anywhere near the velocity you are chasing. Even then, you are going to have to push pressures to get to a level that is not likely to be anywhere near 3000 fps.

3000+ from a .260 case? With 140's? Without pressure? Even a 6.5-284 has to be pushed hard to get there. If you do it from a .260 case, you are not going to do it at anything near sane pressure levels.

Do yourself a favor and re-think either your desired case capacity or your velocity goals. They are not compatible.

No way can I hit 3k out of my 260 with a Krieger 28" 8.5 twist at 550'.Running the 140 berger Hybrids with 44gr of H4350 and SMK 142gr with 44.3gr of H4350 I get 2850fps out of both loads with a es 10-11.The 44.3gr load is hard on the brass.

Unless you are shooting at least a 26" barrel you have to push a 264 Win Mag a little to get 3000 fps with 140 gr bullets.

Guys, thanks for the responses, which explain why I couldn't find the answer I was looking for using search function.

Ya sorry brother, all the others are spot on, just not a safe goal. I was pushing 2950 with H4350, 140g amax out of a 27 1/2 in Brux, brass life was non existent and primmer pockets were smoked after the first firing. Your going to have to step up the case volume to get the speeds your chasing.
