I am guessing because when some bullets go subsonic (namely the 168 grain SMK) they can be very erratic, and i am guessing they would like to prevent that just for safety reasons (although very unlikely something bad would happen).

I would say they are very, very stupid.
lmao that was my initial thought. I emailed there president ti see if there were any caliber or brake restrictions and that's what I got in response.

^^^ That's about it. But there is more to it, blanket policies are still very much in use. This is how I see it: We all know that the .308 can be suitably loaded to remain supersonic at 1200yds however, the number of folks who not only comprehend the concept but take the necessary steps to ensure supersonic flight at the 1200yd line are probably far outnumbered by well intended folks who would (& do) showup with FGMM 168's. Which aren't going to make it to 1200 before going transonic (which we all know).
To be able to allow 308 on that range, they would have to verify the bullet, velocity & dope in use for every single 308 on the line at all times. It could be done with some additional RO's which may/can cost the range $$$. It is much more effective & efficient (at least in their eyes) to instill an outright ban on the 308.
It is dumb? Yep. Is it kinda BS? Yep Is it effective? Yep.

I to am not a fan of the 308. BUT REALLY. Can't shoot one at the range because I'm so narrow minded to see that they do win matches at 1000 yds and us haters of the 308 get put back in our shoes. That is @$$9. But at they end of the day my 7mm and 338 will still out shoot the 308s

Total BS . Even when a 308 does go subsonic they would not stray off the expected trajectory buy any unsafe amount on a normal range . What the hell is a range used for if it can't accommodate a few shots straying off by a few inches or even feet .
In the Military I have seen bullets land one target away from where I was firing in high wind and that was never dangerous in anyway just annoying for the other shooters . See bullets hit sideways on the target because they were tumbling all the way there .
We have exactly the reverse stupidity over here on some ranges . Banning some cartridges and weight bullets because they allegedly have too much power for the range licence . It's all meaningless when the bullet impacts the butts anyway .
Some ranges have lifted these restriction now which is good news .

Some ranges have found out the hard way that rounds landing short will skip over the berm and land in the neighbors yard. This may have happened at the range in question or they may have read something on the internet and are being stupid. If you really care talk to someone who should know why the rule was made. I am sure we would all like to know the real story.
