Idaho Wolf Hunting

The reason I saw the wolf reg proposal was I needed to print off the Nonresident application.

A hunting license costs me --- $141.50
An elk tag costs me--------------$372.50
A deer tag costs me -------------$258.50
A bear tag costs me--------------$171.75

Total costs of licenses ----------$ 944.25

Throw in several thousands of miles of gas for the truck and it is pretty costly.

I think I am going to let the bear tag go this year. I can't figure out exactly what I would do with a bear if I should kill him and I can always use my deer tag if I should decide to act stupid and shoot one. I have no desire to spend money on a taxidermist to tan the hide and then have to find a place to store the hide here at home. Of course, when I get bored I will oftentimes do something stupid just to relieve the boredom

I suspect that this will be the last year I rifle hunt elk. Win or lose, the challenge of bowhunting is so much more severe than with the long range rifles and equipment that are available today. And the weather is warmer in bow season.:D

Hopefully, I will draw some antelope tags in Wyoming and get a calm day and a cooperative antelope and we will see just how far a 7AM will smoke some fur.

I still have a 1 in 200 chance of drawing a desert bighorn tag in Nevada.

Yeah it can be costly for NR.

Yeah I understand the challenge of hunting elk in the rut. Been packing a bow in Idaho since I moved here. Can't seems to put it down and pick up a rifle.

Hoping to draw a cow moose permit myself. A good meat hunt. Will put the wife in for trophy deer.

I understand that I am responding to a old thread. But now wolf hunting has been open for a few seasons us hunters completely agree with the mind frame that the wolves only take the week and old and make the population in control of the other animals in the forest. So that being said then I also am a animal in the forest and I am a predator. In stead of teeth and claws I use a gun. I will hunt wolves with a FMJ 223 about 60 gr and gut shoot the wolves. If they run off then I keep hunting. I will go for the biggest first since they are the oldest and deserve to die keeping the wolf supporters theory. Then I will move down to the next in line. The one That actually lays over with a FMJ gut shot I will claim. Them I will go get another $10 tag and teach all other kids and hunters to do the same. If a wolf can do it then I can too? Teach others just like the wolves teach the rest of the pack. I am a carnivore, they are a carnivore, they kill ruthlessly, I can kill ruthlessly.

But why gut shoot them with a 223? Gut shooting does not seem very humane unless it also goes into their vitals and they go down immediately. Are you gunning for their hides?

You miss the point. He is gunning for killing as many as possible because they destroy large game herds....

Warning! This thread is more than 11 years ago old.
It's likely that no further discussion is required, in which case we recommend starting a new thread. If however you feel your response is required you can still do so.
