Which stock should I get?

If this is the wrong section I apologise, I wasnt sure where to put this. And hopefully I dont stir as much up as my last post did, but I did a search of this and learned a lot, but still have a couple questions.

Now that "I think" Ive settled on the standard 30-06 for my build, Im debating on stocks.

The style I like is the "tactical" look that most companys call them. Ive looked at all brands from Boyds to Mcmillan and I cant decide for sure, so here is what Im looking at with average prices from lowest to highest.

Boyds Tacticool Centerfire- $110
Bell & Carlson Medalist Tactical- $240
Choate Tactical- $270
Manners and McMillan- Way too much for my empty pockets

So now I ask, why spend so much on a stock? I learned from my searches that laminate can be just as strong and weather resistant as composite stocks, and with a proper pillar and glass bed is there any reason the Boyds wouldnt be as good as the B&C or Choate? My understanding is that both of those, despite having an aluminum bedding block, would still benefit from a full glass bed. So I dont see the benefit of spending more only to still require bedding, when I can make my own pillars on my lathe.

Just to get this out there, even though I was a DM for the Corps, Ive never really been into long range shooting, I was just good at it. But its starting to interest me more and more, so I appreciate everything you guys can teach me, and I love me some knowledge.

BC are great stocks! HS precision as well, also lots of great used stock all over the net on boards, I picket up a used McMillan classic for my FN for 300$

If it were me, I'd buy one of the cheaper stocks and use the money I saved to glass bed it, and maybe do a camo paint job.

Also, as ICANHITHIMMAN said, HS Precision makes some great stocks.

I have owned and shot many of the stocks that you have listed and most all are capable of establishing an accurate and viable platform. In my view, the choice will come down to the ergonomics, weight, cost, and appearance that personally suites your specific need. Maybe it's in my head, but I will say that the rifles I own that have specifically matched McMillan stocks on them shoot great, but, do have an unexplainable feel, balance, and appearance that set them apart from my other rifles. I would have no problem spending the extra bucks if I had it to do over again....just ordered another one for my Milpec 700 300 WM. IMO.

Another vote for B&C or HS Precision.

You may want to also consider putting out a "looking for" or a "want to buy." I've gotten some good buys on used stuff that way.

Have both on rifles, and they are both excellent products.

I can recommend B&C. I put a medalist on a S1 wthby vanguard hoping the accuracy would improve. The replacement stock was a perfect drop-in fit. Accuracy didn't change much, but didn't really need to. The stock change didn't free float the barrel, and my shooting skills aren't reliable enough to evaluate any one component's effect on the gun. Pressure point systems such as the wthbys are something I don't need to mess with. Gun still shoots the guarantee and looks a lot better. At some point I hope to get a varmint medalist for the wthby HB-ST that will free float the barrel.
