I had this rifle come in today and thought I had to share how not to bed your rifle. The customer didn't bed this rifle as he just bought it. The duct tape is holding the single shot follower in place. Maybe MacGyver bedded it?

I have seen a few bedding jobs like this Kevin. But the duct tape is a new twist.

The only thing missing was the Locktite.

That's a good question, I have it in mind to get real drunk and give this a try see how bad I can do with a junk stock.

I think it is most likely a classic case of underestimating how hard it is and just diving in with no research done or help solicited .
It's not brain surgery but it does need to be done a certain way for certain types of actions , also with some planning and care .
Just asking an old hand to help you the first time can pay big dividends in getting a reasonable job the first time and this clues you up to all the little techniques that make it come out right .
Actually this kind of thing upsets me a bit to see that someone has tried their best but screwed up their gun . It's unfortunate that it appears that they did not have someone to help them.

Besides being ugly, tell us what all is wrong with the bedding job...start at recoil lug and work your way back to the tang.

Was the duct tape still in place...wow, LOL!

The strange v shaped inletting in the forend channel is stupid .
No bedding found it's way to fill any of that.
There seems to be two bedding materials . epoxy at the front blob and the rest looks like a Polyester car bog.
The recoil lug area is a nightmare of unformed bedding . Can't tell if any proper relief was allowed in the right places .
To me it looks like two different bedding attempts the first looked somewhat better .
The way to do it right is tape the barrel to get the correct action height and remove the whole lot and start again . Glue in some pillars and then bed on that .
A turd is a turd no matter how you describe it .

Just goes to show that gunsmiths are being overly critical when they bed rifles. Just grab your favorite color of duct tape and give her h#ll! I wonder if duct tape can be used instead of cerakote also?

I did see one other use of Duct Tape (Wish I had taken a picture).
The Duct Tape was wrapped all the way around the action to hold it in the stock (He said he lost
the action screws while cleaning it and wanted to hunt so he taped it.

The interesting thing was that it was over a year old. (Good Duct Tape). and on a 7mm Mag
Vanguard.
