I was just wondering who out there uses the match king for hunting? I know the big 338 guys will use the 300 grainer, but the reason im asking is my wifes 6.5 wsm loves the 140 gn mk, its a 3 shot 1 holer @100 and so far the es is 0 fps thats 9 rounds at 3228 fps! Im still playing with it but wow is all I can say! I tried the 140 bergers but it just doesn't like the bergers at all. So if anybody uses the match kings please tell how they perform on flesh and bone please. Jay

I used the 300 gr SMK before I switched to Bergers in the 338's. I also use the 107 SMK's in my 6 br and have taken small deer ant antelope to 650 ish. some closer. No problems here. I also shot a yote facing me at 650 with a 107 SMK. It entered between the shoulders and exited with a 1" plus exit under his tail. If he wasn't so dead he would have had a choice on which hole the next time he had to go.:D

Thats great to hear cause this gun loves this load! I have now put 15 rounds thru it 5, 3 shot groups. All thru a hole I could cover with a nickel and the first 13 were at 3228 fps the last 2 thru a hot barrel were @3244 both of them! And I did think my crono might be faulty so I pulled out my spare and it confirmed the first.

Jeff, you sure that was an exit hole?

I was about to ask the same question because i have a BUNCH of 168gr SMK's that I need to do SOMETHING with... LOL

I LOVE the way they shoot in my 300SAUM and just this morning stumbled across them in my loading room and idly wondered if people still use them for hunting. I remember they were all the rage a few years ago and now I'm glad people are still using them with good results.

You won't regret it...gun)

I've shot more animals with an smk they any other bullet. Shot my buck this year with a 240smk.. It went to the fields of green clovers instantly.

Most of the guys who don't recommend them due to many negative experiences refrain from posting because they get all but crucified for sharing. That said, there is plenty negative experiences here despite all the positive. As for me I gave up on them for hunting. Too many pencil holes, no major energy transfer and no blood trails. If you can ensure spine hits go for it. If not, you maybe disappointed in their inconsistency. Sometimes they open, sometimes they don't. Any 'hunting' bullet can fail to open too but they open a hell if a lot more reliably. Unpredictable is not part of my vocabulary with ANY part of my hunting gear.

I have shot 150gr SMK out of my 7Mag and 175gr SMK out of my 300 win Mag. Killed everything I shot with it. At closer and longer ranges. All exited with at least a one inch exit wound. Whitetail Javelina Coyotes you name it. Very accurate bullet. I started loading Accubond in 160gr for the 7Mag and 180gr accubonds for the 300 Win Mags but still love to fling the SMKs down range at steel. They are very accurate! I lucked out with the turret I have on my 7Mag for the accubonds because it matches up well with the SMKs too! Lucky me! :D
