Just got the new stock in. It feels way better than my old HTG. I can actually get a proper cheek weld and the thicker front end feels much better to me. Figured some of you might like to see it.

Props to McMillan, they designed a very nice stock with this one.

I don't push my loads to hard for playing at the range.

I run the 140 Amax at 2990

the 140 VLD at 2960

My hunting load is the 127 Barnes LRX running at 3140. Its a pretty stiff load but very, very deadly.

May I ask what your load data is for the Barnes? I have a 6.5-284 with a 26in barrel on order and just bought a box of 127LRX bullets. I am curious to find out how they perform. I hope they shoot well because I like the lead free concept for meat that my family and I will consume. I plan on using them for deer, antelope, and possibly elk if I am ever lucky enough to draw a tag. What have you shot with them and how did they perform? Thanks in advance!

jumping .030" off the lands

I started getting pressure signs at 50.5 grains in my gun so be careful.

This load shoots very well in my gun, just as good as the Amax or Berger. Between me and a buddy last year we killed 15+ deer and numerous hogs with them and they have been devastating to say the least. I can honestly say that for anything 600 yards and in, I won't use anything but barnes. I don't elk hunt, but I wouldn't be scared at all from using this load on one.

My experience with Barnes, so far, has been stellar. I just think you need to keep your impact velocity at or above 1900-2000 fps. So depending on your load, your max range may vary.

I like the Berger 140 VLD. With its higher BC it retains it's energy better at distance. Plus it doesn't need as much speed to still get good expansion.

Sounds good. I purchased a box of HSM with Berger 140s for break in. I will see how they shoot...

Just keep in mind Berger bullets can be sensitive to seating depth. If the HSM's won't shoot, don't give up on the bergers, they are usually very accurate if you play with them.

santee116 thats a great looking rifle. Drift141 I shoot the HSM 140gr berger in my 6.5x284 and it will shoot .5'' groups at 100yds if I do my part.

That is good to know. After I purchased them I bought a set of Redding dies and lapua brass lol. Off the shelf ammo is not cheap!

My buddy killed a black bear at 760ish (I think it was 766) with the same bullet and 49.5 grain of H4350. He hit the bear broadside hitting only lungs (missed the ribs even) and the bullet expanded perfectly....I was pretty concerned bout expansion and had my 338 pointed at it just in case. The bear folded on impact.

I don't normally like pea shooters for long rang hunting, but the little 6.5 284 and the Barnes kills very well. My buddy has also killed elk (under 50 yards) and moose with the same combo. IIRC the moose was 635ish and the LRX went thru both shoulders and kept on going.
He got 750 pounds of meat from the moose so not bad for a pea shooter!
