How do I find out???? I just went on line and it didn't say yes or no. Got my NM elk but waiting on combo tag

I put in for 380 and 300 for elk and deer so I get my bonus points then I second a guaranteed but permitted areas so I got my bull permit and mule deer buck permit for my favorite units. Kinda stoked about the mule deer, last year we saw some buck that were worth screwing up an elk hunt over!!

I found it!!!!! Got our combo tags!!!! No special areas but we hunt near Lima
2 hunts in a 3 week time period!!!!! NICE!! Wife wil not be happy

Cool! I put in for a special deer on the same area too but was unsuccessful -- it's one of the few areas for either-sex/either species.

Very nice, now i know who drew my bull permit! Oh well, now we put in for cows since none of us got bull permits up there. Sure do love that area, it was one heck of a crazy season up there last year, starting with the guys in the camp next to ours burning their tent down friday night before the season started!
Horses are a boon though, we go both with and without them, but with them is worht the extra work. Wound up getting two cows out of there last season, both big old girls. Long range is the norm once you get on top too, it is so wide open in some places!
I will never forget seeing 1000 head in a single herd there, or a herd of 50+ spikes running around like idiots. Sure is a beautiful place up there, and alot of fun to hunt. Good luck, if we draw cow tags we'll see you on the mountain!
P.S. Odds on a bull tag= 6% odds on an either sex either species deer permit= 3%

L! I and two of my hunting buddies went in with 3 points each. This is my first time hunting that area so I welcome any pointers you might have to share. Thanks!

It isn't a huge area to hunt, but there can be a ton of elk in there! It is nice because the size of the area means you don't HAVE to pack a camp in if you don't want to, there are hitchin' rails and outhouses in the campgrounds so we stay there in a camper rather than pack in a tent camp. It is only a little ride or walk in in the morning to be back to the elk, then its find a herd, or get run over by one if somebody pushes them your way. Closer you get to the lake, less people you see (Willow creek campground or Elkhorn campground) and more deer, but once the elk get pushed around they are all over in there. It opens in the 15th of May and you can drive in all the way till the 15th of September when they lock the gates at the campgrounds. We'll be going in bear hunting at the end of the month and scout around, and then again for fall bear season, there are plenty of bears back in there. At the middle of the season the manager who lives on the game range told us that there was 3000 head of elk on there coming over from the Sieben side and headed towards the lake.
Just some rambling about the area, it's not that far from the Electric City so i would say just run up there and nose around once it opens here next month!

I've hunted Sieben and the old Dana Ranch (sold to an out-of-stater and heard they are not going to be participating in the BMA program) before. Two years ago, I got drawn for 2-day cow elk only at Dana but we can see from the top that the big heard were at Sieben.

We'll be up there doing the same, it is some nice Cutthroat fishing since they put in the fish gates so the Cutt's can't get to the lake and the 'Bow's can't get up the crick.
We hunt the Dana ranch damage hunts most years, this was no exception! Can say we hunted elk nonstop from Oct season opener till Feb 15 late season close! The herds are pretty much the same, and once the shooting started in the late season ALOT of the cows slipped over the top into the Beartooth. We saw a few herds of cows but the snow was so deep it would have been impossible to get to them, you can see so far up there it sometimes means just because you can see them does not mean you have a chance of getting to them before dark. We did have a neat experience getting into a herd of about 60 bulls in the timber, they knew they were in no danger and stay on the same ridge from december till may.
I have met the new manager, Jason from Oklahoma and he is a straight shooter, he manages all of their ranches around the country and will be here for 2 or 3 years before he goes back to OK and hopefully turns managment back to Todd, but as of right now, Todd still has a job there, but Jason is the manager. He said they weren't sure if they were going to allow Block Managment to continue until they came out and toured the ranch with him over Christmas and realised that the only way there will be any grass left up there is if they continue to kill elk, and they are over populated to begin with, IMHO. So he actually said with their go-ahead, he acutally wants to make access BETTER and easier for hunters so they could kill more elk. I quote; "I am not a hunter, but my opinion is if it is a damage harvest then they need to make it easier to actually harvest elk" so hopefully they do keep it open. This is all straight from him, no middle man, as of middle of january. I am keeping my fingers crossed that they actually keep it that way, rather than selling out to the highest bidder and locking us out. There are an aweful lot of state land sections once you start looking at the map as well, so they could be in a no win situation...
