Is a remington sendero 300 wm action long enough to build an edge or possiably a 338 ultra on down the road?

My buddy is building a 338 Lapua Mag from a Remington 700 Sendero Action in 300win Mag. Gun used to be mine but he bought it off me to build a Lapua. Gunsmith said it was doable

I built my edge from a savage 110 it was a 300 mag and I just built my buddy a 338 rum on a savage also have a 300 rum barrel will be here tomarrow and a 375 rum on the way from mcgowen all will be on savage actions yours shuld be fine might have to. Put in a longer mag box if you want a repeter and have it chamberd for the +.050 if you want to shoot 300 gr bullets mine is standerd and the bullet is seated deep into case but I manly shoot 250gr hpbt at 3100 fps easy with 90 grs of 7828 with bullet just tuching lands

In order for it to be a repeater, you will have to order a Wyatt's 4.000" magazine box, and will have to have a smith mill out the bottom of the reciever to be able to properly utilize the full-length mag box.

I have been doing the same research for my Sendero SF 7mmSTW, since I want to run my Berger 180's to the lands, and I can't do that with the stock mag box. I can get close, but as we all know, close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades...

I'm getting better rusults out of 3 of the 4 calibers running them to the lands (4th being a Weatherby, so I can't run them to the lands with the amount of freebore it has).

My .308 is getting the best results pushing the 210's up against the lands and pretty much press-fitting them when I lock the bolt down.

When I sit my 180's out in my STW and shoot them single-shot I get better results, than with the lengths that will currently fit inside my magazine box. Same with my A-Bolt II 7Mag.

Have you tried any of them -.090" to -.130" off the lands? I don't have a rifle now with them closer than -.040"

Might help with some mag boxes for some shooters.

My only point is to try to offer another option. The old ways of bearing the VLD in the lands is not the only way they shoot all the time. If you read this by Eris Stecker,

You may find it very helpful. I have seen many rifles shoot with seating depths well past -.100" I never settle for less that .5 moa accuracy at 300 yards either. I test initial seating depths in -.030" increments.

Just another option. Your milage may vary.
