I am about to rebarrel my burned out 30/378 Weatherby Accumark. I am looking for a reputable gunsmith to do this task for me. Am not able to find anyone locally that gives me the comfort that they know what they are doing. My desire is to have a quality rifle when done.

Thanks in advance

Sully,

Thanks for the response. I live in Montana and Michigan. As to budget not too constrained. I am willing to ship it to a good gunsmith.

I'm sure Kirby Allen would be willing to help you out. Never had him do any work personally, but I hear he's one hell of a smith. He's on here, too. Uses the name "FiftyDriver".

What part of MT, Billings GF Missoula Helena Kalispell? There are some great smiths in the state.

Are you planning to rebarrel in 30-378 Wby Mag? Are you interested in shooting at long range (1000yd or more)? Consider the ballistics of the 338 Norma Magnum which can shoot lower drag bullets from that action giving more downrange energy, more supersonic range, and (especially) lower wind deflection. It will also give considerably longer barrel life. Cost of the rebarreling should be the same.

Dave Young of Young's Gunsmithing is very well versed in Wby Mark V rifle rebarreling. He is in Tracy Montana east and south of Great falls. But I think his mailing address could be SanCoulee (sp?) Just don't be in a hurry, I always ask for a completion date...

I would not have Dave young do anything he has done some work for me and some friends and lets just say my friends and I will never have another thing done by him or his employe's

I've only heard good about Dave Young and He's doing a 300 RUM build for me on a R700. He likes Mark V actions and has probably worked on hundreds of them, maybe thousands, and he is also 30-378 fan. He tried to talk me into one but I opted for the 300 RUM. He probably has as much experience and knowledge of the Weatherby's and Mark V's as anyone.
