Ballistic Apps and Sloped Rails?

Im breaking into long range shooting. Before I dive to far i want to know how a sloped rail affect ballistic calculators like the iphone app "Ballistic: Advanced Edition." I noticed that most of the setups out there have a 20 or 30 moa scope rail. How do you adjust for this in a calculator?

Zero is zero. The slope of the rail is not relevant in calculating trajectory except that it adds additional MOA to the scopes up adjustment.

Hope I did not misunderstand your question.

No I think you right on, its just playing hay-day with my brain trying to put the angle all together in my head. I wrote the app developer to see if he could incorporated sloped rails into his app.

Thanks!

I use shooter and it has a site height, centerline of bore to centerline of scope

Mine has the same its just confusion in my head to think how a sloped rail affect downrange adjustments. I got a response back for the app dev and he said so long as its zero there is no difference it just increases the amount of drop in elevation but nothing to effect the trig of the scope

Good thread.

I'm understanding the canyt makes no difference ...but is there a way, a simple one, to determine line of site above lone of bore with out a lot of shooting.

Any one done the math on cant angles and stuff.

I'm pretty much on house arrest and my brain feels a bit caged.

Not quite sure what you mean, However Im a math major so if you feed me enough info I can figure it out. Im new to long range shoot before this it was simple 100 - 200 yrd stuff. point, pull trigger, go pick up kill... now i want to use my head more and take less shots

The 20moa rails just allow you to utilize more of the internal adjustment in your scope so let's say the scope has 100moa of vertical adjustment and it's zeroed right in the middle instead of wasting the 50moa of down adjustment you'll never use you'll have 70moa up from zero and only 30moa down.

With a flat rail the line of sight is parallel to line of bore. With the sloped rail the eye piece is higher than the objective lens center. The slope of the rail and scope are =.

lightbulb it may be as simple as, if center of scope is also centered between rings the value to enter into ballistic software is the difference between line scope C/L and C/L of rings.

This ts taxing my mine more than I need at the moment. Think I'll pop another OxyContin and take a nap. Pain sux when it's not due to recoil. :D
