I just purchased a Browning X-Bolt Varmint Stalker in a 243 caliber. I'm looking for some recommendations on a scope. I'm looking for a 4 - 12x but as we know there are a ton of options available.. Any brand I should stay away from or choose?

I would recommend the Nikon monarch first, I have been choosing these over Leopold for my last few scopes. Second if you want a cheaper route check out the new Redfield. I have shot the 243 with the Redfield 6-18 revenge and I must say very impressed and left me thinking I should have looked at these first. That scope and gun is top notch.

It depends, how much do you want to spend?

You stole my post!

If the Monarch is attainable from your price range, the valuable is second to none. Compare the clarity to the Vortex of the same price and there is no comparison. I just bought a 5-20x44 w/BDC at Cabelas for only $400 while they are normally $550, just a matter of a sale combined with a coupon. I think once you get much past that price range you have crossed the efficiency frontier and you get a lot less for each extra dollar spent IMHO.

The Vortex Viper hs lr's are better set up for long range then Nikon Monarchs. I have a Monarch on my Xbolt varminter .243 It only has enough adjustment to get me out to 750 yds.

I had a 4-16x42 Monarch on my 7mag and traded it out for a 4-16x44 Viper and considered it an upgrade.

That is good to know what do those viper scopes cost. I love my monarch6x24 for the price. If the vortex is better for the same price I'm interested. Scopes are a tough balance of price and performance. The cheapest I have gone is the new Redfield.
