I am in the process of building a Custom 280 on a Winchester action, and a #4 Brux barrel. Originally, I was going with a laminated, well made stock, but have thought about opting for a synthetic due to weight savings.
I have looked at the BC Medalist Ultralite, with aluminum, full length block. I am told this is the same stock that Winchester uses on there Extreme rifle. Does anyone have any experience with it?
It seems to be well designed, and weighs less then 2 pounds! Any thoughts?

Just put one on a 264 but have not shot it yet. It went 29 oz. and fit was fine.

I have 3 of them if I was going to purchase another stock it would be another one of theirs.

How liberal is the barrel channel? I couldnt get any " good info" from Stockys as the the exact dimensions. My barrel is a # 4 contour, Brux, which is a little bigger then a standard Mag contour. How is the fit in the chamber area? I guess if I have to open it up somewhat, then so be it! My gunsmith says he can open it with his end mill, then I'll have to refinish it. I am going to get the sand colored one. So far, I have heard good things. I was going to use a laminated stock made by S&K, which is a awesome stock, and excellently crafted, I'm just thinking of the weight at this point. I found a CNC machined bottom metal for about $100.00. ( very nice ).

The barrel channel can definitely be opened to accept a #4. I highly doubt it would drop right in.

They make them to drop in a #4 contour. Contact www.redhawkrifles.com they have a lot better selection in stock ready to ship. Their customer service is a lot better than Stockys also.

Thanks for the link, and I just visited their website. They are out of stock at the moment, but I left them my info, and the question about the custom inlet for #4 Brux. That will make things a lot easier if that's the case. Theie price is comparable with Stockys as well. Thanks again, much appreciated.

Team Roper, I went on their website, left my info, and the owner just called me!!!! Talk about GREAT customer service!!! And the price is cheaper, and it IS in stock! He did say that the #4 would fit in, but it will be too tight to leave alone. He told me how to remove the material without " butchering" the stock. What a great guy! Very helpful, and eager to help. Thanks again for the link! I'll pass it along to too!

Bob, keep updating with photo's, I need to pick a stock soon, I think this is the one.

Ed, I have changed my mind about a dozen or so times, and each time I come to the synthetic option, this stock has rose to the top for me. I was going to put a laminated stock on made by the same people that made the one on my STW that I built last spring. ( you saw that I think).
But I started thinking about the weight issue, then I went to the synthetic way of thinking. Back and forth, you know the drill. So, I have bought a CNC machined floor plate,( awesome), and the machine work on the gun got delayed because he received the wrong reamer. ( 280 AI ). I didn't want the AI. So, as soon as the machine work on the action and barrel are done, I will get the stock.
This is the same stock Winchester uses on their Extreme model. I think I made the right decision!
