I can not decide which one I don't need anymore, offer your opinion?

So I want a Ruger GSR, I don't have the money or the space in the safe. I have 3 long range rifles, a Winchester 300 wsm, Howa 300 win mag, Rem 264 wing mag (with a 338 RUM barrel waiting). I cant see myself selling the WSM as I LOVE the thing! So that narrows it down a bit.

Do I need two 30cal mags? What would you do?

If you want to keep the WSM, I'd get rid of the Howa 300 Win. That still gives you the future build with the 338 and you won't miss the performance of your Win mag because you'll have the WSM.

I was in the same boat when I had a WSM and a Win mag (just hunting rifles). I sold the Win mag and haven't regretted it at all. If you shoot both guns quite frequently, is there something else in the safe that could pay for the GSR?

I usually give myself 3 weeks to think about what I'm going to get rid of or to see how bad I really want the new gun. If after 3 weeks I know I can't live without the new one...I sell the gun I use less

I have been there. At one time in my life I owned 100 or so rifles

Then as time went on I started to realize I was more of a hunter than a collector. I started selling them and bought better scopes, RF's and top end rifles and equipment. I now own less than 10 rifles. Some never get shot but have sentimental value, they will be handed down. It seems I am content with a 6 br, 300 win and a good 338 for all the long range work. And the 6 br has been collecting dust. This past season I sold off my beloved 338 LM in lieu of a LRMK that is in the works. So for big game season I was faced with only one rifle that was up to the task of everything from antelope to elk. My 300 win. I worked up a new load, shot it a lot, let others use it with my guidance, and you know what? I killed my biggest bull ever, also made my longest shot on game and every animal taken with this rifle (20) were one shot kills.

You have heard the old saying before " Beware of the man with one rifle, he probably knows how to shoot it"

You know you don't need them all. Clean the safe, keep what is most effective for your personal type of shooting/hunting and go bond with it.

As we grow in age we also grow in experience. I once was very into running coyotes with hounds. Even won a few pretty prestigious field trials. I , at one time had 58 hounds. But there was the "A" team that I hunted every day. You know why they were the "A" team? Because they got hunted more. If I was to do it again I would never own more than 4 to 6 hounds, and they would get the wheels run off them.

I don't think I could offer you good advice on what to keep as I don't know your hunting /shooting well enough. But I know you well enough from your posts to know you will figure out what you need. If your needs change in the future, sell again and build the new rifle needed.

I'm kind of in Broz's camp----finally realized that hunting was my passion and sold a few to upgrade my hunting equipment to the best. ALTHOUGH, i now regret selling a few of those nasty semi autos......I still wished i woulda kept that HK 91 and 93...............oh well.

BUT, whatever you decide, get that ruger GSR.......amazing rifle and very accuracte.
Once I saw that they made them in left handed, I was first to get one. It goes everywhere with me and it is always on the back of my farm 4wheeler. Performs very well on rattlesnakes................

I mainly shoot the federal gold match 168 grain sierra because I have an ample supply of that cartridge. I've tried a couple of different sight options on it and they all work great but I just went back to irons. I did have a trigger installed and had it bedded----it shoots between half inch and 3/4 with the 168 grain. Funny thing, you can still get magazines for it because I think it is "only" a bolt gun.
But, in all seriousness, I love the **** thing. It is a really really good rifle.

Very good advise Broz... every time I think I want a new gun I make sure to take the time to evaluate where in my safe it will "rank"... do I already own a similar/competitive caliber etc...

As for "The man with one gun..." that's usually me, my dad is the opposite and yes I usually win when we play Long Range "Golf"

I am in the same camp with one caveat: it took so long to weed out the inferior semi-autos that I can not bring myself to sell the refined group I kept even though I never shoot em anymore. I fight the temptation about once a month to trade em off for optics,barrels or loading components for the bolt guns.
All said and done I really only need two handguns: 22lr+sup/45carry two rifles: 1 pelt saving rifle/ 338 edge for everything else maybe a shotgun for the sake of argument. Everything els is kind of redundant. Sell the extra 300 for sure.
