So tonight i was cleaning our rem 700 300 Rum and noticed this. There is a small ridge that protrudes about .010" past the rest of the front of the bolt rim and the rim is slightly flattened on the outside. It looks almost like a metal rod was put through the rim and welded in. I dont know if theis is a safety concern or not so i figured i would ask the experts! Here are a couple pics to clarify.

Ok, thank you, we have a 25-06 on a rem 700 and it doesnt have it so i wasnt sure what was going on. Is it okay for it to protrude .010"? Also, it is where the rim would push the case from the mag.

Remington did both riveted and rivetless extractors. You probably have one of each. It isn't a problem as long as it doesn't hit the bolt nose recess in the barrel. If you want to check that you can remove the firing pin, insert the bolt in the action, and push then pull the bolt. It should have about .010" of slop from all the way to the rear to all the way to the front.

Thanks, i will try that.
