Woof season blues. . .

'bout a month ago went on a UTV woof scoutin' trip. The UTV was completely open. Was lucky I had a shooting mat along which shielded snow from the rear.

To remedy the situation I spent the last couple of days fabricating a snow cover. T'was my first attempt at such a task.

Preflighted it this afternoon. Temp was in the teens. Put 16 miles on it. Was pretty sweet. Snow blowing in was not a problem. Was comfy with light jacket and no gloves. Whoo Hooo!

The downer part is that I head to the hospital tomorrow to get rid of another body part. I suppose it will be weeks before I'll be "allowed" to venture into the mountains after a woof. The end of March will come way too soon.

I'm going to have what's left of that kidney saved in a jar and as soon as I can fire a shot I'm gonna set it @ 200 and smack it with the 375 AM. I'll teach that sucker to mess with me.

Tracks sounded like the best idea anyone ever came up with for late season lion hunting. Go across wind blown hills, across 6 foot deep drifts. Go where no other UTV, 4 wheeler or snowmobile could go. My hunting buddy bought a set for his Buggy. It went anywhere. The problem was it was real slow and his buggy was not built tough enough to handle the tracks. Around 50-60 miles and it was $1800 to replace the front end. Maybe the newer UTV's with more power where you did'nt have to keep it in low range would work better. How is your buggy holding up?? Hope all goes well for your surgery.....dgarrett

It's a Kawasaki 750 twin cyl. with Camoplast tracks. There is about a 50% reduction in the indicated ground speed in high range.

Haven't found any "normal" condition that it won't handle in high range.

The thing is turbo'd and louder than all get out. A snow mobiler can hear it over a mile away.

However, we got 40 yards from some white tail doe this afternoon. They must be some kind of deaf.

The only beefing up it needed was a heavier duty drive belt.

The rig belongs to my son-in-law but he works 5 days a week.

Very cool utv indeed! How about instead of shooting your kidney you use it as bait for a woof and shoot them instead. Not really baiting if their trying to eat your body parts right! Hope you have a quick and smooth recovery.
