7RUM to 338Edge?

A couple years ago I picked up an older, (pre accutrigger) Savage 111 in 7RUM for darn near nothing. Figured I would hang onto it and sell or trade it for something I really wanted. Been reading about the 338 Edge and was curious as whether or not converting it to an Edge is possible.

To the best of my knowledge the 7RUM and 300RUM are built on the same case. If this is true would it be as simple as re-barreling the 7 to 338 and is the Savage action strong enough to handle that kind of pressure?

I have a list of other things I want to do/get before even considering this. It's just that maybe I'll hang onto the rifle as a future project if it is possible.

Thanks,

Thanks,

It would be a simple re-barrel.

Thanks J E.

I read on another forum a few days ago the gentleman who really worked with this wildcat and got it going is a regular an this forum so figured best place to ask.

Recommendation on barrel? Make, length, twist etc, I'm slightly more intrigued now, lol.

I'm doing it with a Weatherby Mark V. Rebarrel, Wyatts removable box magazine and LRP bottom metal. B&C Tactical Medalist Stock. 20 MOA rail. Sighton SIII scope.

On your Savage it's should be a diddle. New barrel, done.

IIWM though I'd get trigger work done as well but how bad could that be.

Thanks J E.

You'll find all the information you need here. 338 Edge And yes, you can convert your 7 RUM with a simple rebarrel.

Just swapped the stock sporter 7mm Mag barrel from my old Savage 110 for a new 30" McGowen 1-10 twist barrel I found in the classifieds and had a Nathan Dagley brake put on the end. Put that in a cheap used Choate Tactical stock I also found in the classifieds. Had a chance to run a few rounds through it this weekend simply for fun. Three rounds in a 'starting' load grouped around .6" at 100 yards. I think I'm going to like this inexpensive build! :D

It's a simple barrel swap, but even though it was built for the RUM case, it still doesn't allow a decent OAL.

Single shot would work best.

A better candidate is a newer centerfeed, with a Accurate CIP length DBM.
