Winchester Model 70 Alaskan Stainless Laminate

I have been considering for some time now what I am going to purchase for my next and most likely last rifle in my lifetime. One of the main candidates is the Winchester Model 70 Alaskan Stainless Laminate in .300 Winchester Magnum.

So have any of you been shooting this new Winchester model yet in any of its calibers and if so how are your impressions of this rifle? I am thinking I will put a Nightforce 3.5-15x50 with a LV.5 Reticle scope on it which will be my first as I have always used Leupolds before.

I haven't shot one of these, though I have seen one or two on gunbroker. Wow, they are pretty rifles! And I don't even like stainless!

I do, however, own one of the FN produced Model 70 Sporters in .264WM. I really am in love with that rifle. The action is the smoothest action I have ever owned and the factory barrel quality seems to be very good. So far, that rifle is shooting WAY beyond what I expected from a factory rifle.

If the Model 70 Alaskan Stainless/Laminate is made to the same level of quality as the basic walnut/blue sporter model, it will be a fine rifle indeed.

I don't have a new CRF M70 either, but friends have told me good things. They sure look nice, and they are silky smooth. Fit and finish is very good. If they made a lefty I would have more than one. I just bought my first NF NXS and you will be very pleased coming from Leupolds.


I don't see how you could go wrong with with this combo, should be a great last purchase!

This is my first post so here goes. I bought this same rifle last fall except in a 338 win mag. I installed a Leupold vx-2 3-9 with cds in Leupold QD rings and needless to say this setup has been outstanding. The fit and finnish is excellent and the rifle easily shoots moa at 100yds with factory ammo. Ive been a long time Remington fan for 20yrs but this rifle definitely converted me. Really like the CRF and the overall balance of the rifle, great for offhand shots. Ive included some pictures of
the rifle, a three shot group at 100yd and the elk I shot last season.Hope this helps.

Sorry to change the subject but i have a question for nate092480, did you have to remove the iron sight to prevent it from interfering with the scope. I bought the same rifle in 300 win mag and want to mount a VX3-L to it for nxt years hunting season. My concern is if i go w/ low rings that i will see the iron sight in the view of the scope.

Nate, that's a dandy rifle, and a dandy Elk too! I know what you mean about being a Winchester convert . Like you, I have been a Remington man for most of my life, but I have a few " priceless" winchesters in my cabinet now, including a Custom shop Sharpshooter in 7STW. Also, I am building a custom rifle on a Winchester action.
I really love that rifle of yours, and especially the laminated stock. It really does make a difference in the feel, and the stability of the action. That laminated stock is like iron. It dosen't shift, shrink, or swell. What a beauty, actually, two!! Congrats on both!

The front sight usually "disappears" at 2.5-3x for me. I've had a fair amount of 1, 1.5x scopes, and while the front sight is there it doesn't interfere. Best comparison I can come up with is a peep sight, your eye wants to move to the center.

Sorry for the delay. I can see the front sight on 3x but once i crank it up it disappears. Even on 3x it doesnt bother me you can just barely see it. Im also using low rings. Hope that helps.
