I think Zeiss may have come up with a new classic with their New Conquest HD5 rifle scope models.
The 5-25x50 is definitely first on my list to replace my old faithful leupold 4.5-15x40 LRPR.
Can anyone tell me what a"lockable target turret" is? and how it works?
And is anyone out there using one?
I would love to hear your comments.

Regards Steve.

I'm awaiting shipment of mine ,it should get here by Friday. I read some where it also has a "Zero Stop " Lockable turrets I think you lift them up to adjust and then push them down or dang recalling the photograph there could of been a lever that is toggled some way. I'm all excited I can't wait till it gets here.

Hey Iron Worker,
My guess is that it is the same function as the Nightforce zero stop but so far I,ve not found any information on what and how it works.

What reticle have you gone for and what rifle are you putting it on?

Regards Steve.

They're PLEX reticule and it will go on a Rem 700 6/284 . Had a Sightron S3 8x32x56mm with 1/8 dot. I wasn't overly impressed with glass dot was way to small and power magnification was to much for a predator/varmint rifle here in Nevada. aLWAYS WANTED A zEISS SCOPE WHEN THESE HD5 came out with new coatings . Regardless that their 1" scopes I had to have one. 5x25x50 will be plenty big and they say they have 65 MOA adjustment. That's more then enough I don't need a 30mm tube.

One of our members "8andbait" received his and we have been talking. He found out to late I might add that once you set the zero stop at your zero there is only 16.5 MOA of up adjustment before the zero stop mechanism stops it from going any higher. That really sucks. You can remove the zero stop and the scope will run all the way up but then you are lost coming back down. Very poor design. Other then that the scope would have been perfect.

Now this was with the Zeiss HD5 3-15. I would think the 5-25 would have the same zero stop setup but could be wrong. So I would recommend before buying that scope to really do the homework

Doesn't "Zero Stop" mean that I set it as such and such then I can adjust it for longer range and then dial it down to original setting and the "Zero Stop " won't let me go past that ?>

You would think that when new products are released they would allow someone time to put together a review so we the cosumers can make an informed decision on what to spend our hard earned money on.
If the lockable turrent when used allows for just 1 revolution of elevation then we are looking at a cheaper version of a Swarovski Z5.
But hey I'm not wanting to make assumptions here, what I want is the absolute gospel according to Zeiss and so far have found limited facts.
Redhawk has alittle bit about how they are suppose to work, something about pulling them up to set the lockable turret. Guess I should email them for some more information?

No doubt the facts will come to light shortly.

Thanks Steve.

You are absolutely correct in your thinking. Gary and I traded emails and pictures of the zero stop system Zeiss uses and it works perfectly going down to zero but it also limits how high you can adjust. Gary said when the zero stop is sitting at zero it has a small pin that stops against a vertical bar. The vertical bar is adjustable for setting your zero. When you rotate the turret, the pin makes almost one revolution (a full revolution is 18 MOA) and then hits the bar on the opposite side giving a 16.5 movement.

Here is a couple pictures Gary shared that shows the pin assembly that rotates and the open turret with the vertical bar in place. Kinda hard to see the bar but if you are mechanically inclined you can figure it out.

Now I received this info second hand and have not personally opened a turret and looked myself. Gary spent a lot of his time getting me up to speed on this and I appreciate that. All should do their own research. Some who do not need more than 16.5 of up travel should be happy with this nice compact scope. Just won't work for me.

I have been using the scope(3-15) for the last couple weeks. I do not find it to be typical Zeiss clarity. It functions very well and is repeatable and tracks great. The zero stop, as Jim mentioned can be set anywhere you want it but it only makes one full turn up from that point which is 16.5 MOA. Once you have it zeroed you pull off the turret and remove the black ring with the horizontal post on it. Place the black ring so the two posts touch and you will have 16.5 MOA from there. It has rubber "O" rings on the turret and the screw which should be greased. When I received mine I thought the clicks were sort of squishy and not very audible, after removing the turret I realized the O ring was forced out of it's groove in one spot and was putting pressure on the turret. Once I pushed it back in the groove and applied a small amount of grease the clicks were more positive and more audible. Just be careful everytime you remove the turret as the O ring is a nice tight fit and it is easy to get it caught on the edge of the turret and pull a small portion out of the groove.

I would say the clarity of the glass is on par with my Vortex Viper HS LR. Which is good enough for hunting but just not as clear as I would have expected. The glass on my Huskemaw blue diamond is quite a bit clearer on 15 and 20 power. The parallex, turrets, eyepiece all function very well and the reticle is a decent thickness for hunting. Overall for a hunting scope with a 1" tube this is probably as good as it gets. If you are looking for a 30mm tube I would get a vortex or if funds allow a Huskemaw.

Again, this is only one sample but I do have leupold, vortex and huskemaw to compare it to and for function (which is my main concern) it is as good as the others, glass clarity for my eyes it is on the bottom tied with the vortex then leupold then huskemaw in my opinion.

I really like the scope and it is perfect for my 6.5 creedmoor since I use it for hunting and may be shooting 50 yards in timber or 700 yards in the sage. I can get to 750 yards in one turn so not a big problem with the limited travel.

I'm awaiting a 5x25x50mm tomorrow. If what's you say about the glass quality is true I'll be one disappointed person .... Main reason I ordered it cause of Zeiss legendary glass ! They say they added some new coating previously reserved for there Upper end scopes . Tied with Vortex ! It can't be it just can't be............... ****

Thanks Jim and Gary for your good information, excellent tip on the o ring Gary.
I was considering mounting a New Conquest on my 7mm STW.

With 16.5 moa of adjustment from zero stop it will probaly limit me to about 850 yds maybe out to 900 yds if I make my zero 250 yds instead of 100yds.
Most of my hunting is inside those ranges so it is 98% of the time not an issuse, but if a trophy animal presented itself at 1000yds and the conditions were perfect to shoot i would feel a little cheated with the 5-25x50 optics and only 16.5 moa adjustment.
I guess like most things you have to make a compromise.

Thanks again for your help.

Regards Steve.

Hey Iron Worker,
Your 50mm Zeiss lens should be just find, I wouldn't be too concerned.
Let us know your thoughts once you have given it a good workout?

Cheers Steve.
