You stated "next 5 83.5 grains jumping .30 then .50 then .70. " So are you saying that the group of 5 had 3 seating depths?

These are at 100 yards?

Does the rifle have a brake?

I would back off to shooting 3 shot groups, and allow complete barrel cool between.

Tell us about your rifle, bbl length, twist, etc. I could never get H1000 to shoot well in my 300. RL 25 lit by Fed 210s run 3100 fps. Keep it up, there is a node you will hit.

It's a 300 Remington 700 sendero 26" tube with a brake .
1 in 10 twist
Precision stock
With a karst an cheek rest
5.5x20 -50 night force NPRI redical
Using h1000 Remington brass and federal primers
215 Berger VLD hybrid
Jumping .20 off the lands to start !

Broz

Each 5 loads had the same seating depth .20 off the lands .

I will start loading 3 shot groups

Yes they are 100 yard groups
Yes the rifle has a brake

83.8 had the best grouping again it was cold here in texas this morning , 40 with a north wind blowing

86 grain is max book load , all these loads where 2.2 grains below book max

These loads where a a surprising low recoil loads to shoot .

After shooting 180 Barnes 3200 fps

And I cleaned my gun till no more blue came out ,brushed it then let it sit brushed it and let it sit again took 5 hours of soaking and pushing patches thru it .

Thanks for the info. Try 0, .005 and .010 into the lands. From my testing, 30s seem to like to be closer to the lands.

If your running a factory barrel then you could be heating the barrel by the 3rd shot and by the 4th and 5th the barrel will be smokin hot. Broz told you well about waiting between shots remember when you shoot the first shot and waite several minutes before you fire the second shot , if your impatient (like me) then you will feel the barrel and to the touch it will seem okay to proceed but remeber you have a heavy sendero barrel and it will still be very warm from the inside out . This is why I got a broughton barrel installed on my .300 RUM. If you have any retumbo you may try it .

db, have you done this with the hybrid o-give line?

Thanks
Jeff

Not yet Broz, just the vld bullets. I've wanted to try the hybrid vlds, but can't find any. Must not be making many or selling out all they make. My 300 has a 3 groove Lilja 1/11 and stabilizes a 210, so a 208-215 hbvld should work.

Whay are you bothering to ram it in so close to the lands??? I'm getting 1/2" to 2/3" 3 shot groups out of my un-braked bdl lefty 300 rum with either rl33 or rl50 and the 225 hornady hpbt and I'm holding back to 3.650" so I can stay in the mag. I'm not loosing speed either, as I can still hit 3K fps flat with it. I'm going to try Retumbo one of these days in it as I bought a keg on a whim and I really don't use the stuff (I bought it for my stw which was being a turd to me for a time).

Ok, I haven't jammed them in either. But have never seen a need to with any hybrid o-give Berger. I tend to go the other way since I load them as a hunting round.

Thanks for the reply.

I guess the answer to this guestion actually begins many years ago with the old timer smiths that would tell you to seat the 30s touching, so I did. Then a few years ago, when I had PT blue print a 300 RUM reamer, they cut it for a 210 vld to feed from a Wyatt box. I think the short throat thing also came more into focus when I was loading for my 300 Wby, too much jump for my taste. So even when dealing with a tight chamber custom rifle, I will include seating depths in the .0" to .010" range. If it works, ok if not what is expected, I seat them deeper. By the way, how full are your cases when you use RL 33 and RL 50?

rl33 is just fine, rl50 is rather compressed by 2900 fps and 98 grains, by 3000 fps and 102 grains it is **** compressed but it still holds length(when left to sit for a spell) and shoots as well as 98 grains. I'm switching to rl33 for the heavies on it if they chrono well. Even at 3K fps rl50 is a rather mild load with the 225 in the rum. I hope rl 33 is faster as it seemed snappier when I shot them side x side. The wind was up too much last fall when I went out with the rum and rl33 to chrono it. I don't want to buy another chrono stand.
