Can someone tell me the difference, if any, in these two calibers. I currently own rifles in .300 wby,270wsm,257wby, and 25-06. I would like to add a 6mm/.243 to my arsenal and had considered the .240wby. I have been hearing a bunch about 6mm-06 but to me they seem like the same thing. Sorry if this is a stupid question .

the .243 win is a good choice, as well as the others. not a stupid question.
as far as "where are you gonna get ammo", i guess we should all go back to the '06 and .223rem (that was sarcasm).
If I was you, i would lay out what i want to do with the rifle. decide if its going to be a practice rifle, a walking varmit rifle, a long range hot-rod, a predator rifle or a big game rifle. then think about how many rounds that your gonna send through it a year, and when you can afford a new barrel.
If your going the practice route, you might want to look into the 6BR.
walking varmit/practice- .243 win, 6XC
hot rod long range yote gun- 6mmx.284win (of the fast 6's i think this is the best)
big game-i dont know, 6mm are coyote guns

I hate it when people suggest something other than what I asked about but....6-284. Plenty of horsepower for the 6 bore yet theoretically more effecient than the others. Brass much easier to form than 06 and you NEVER want to buy weatherbee brass...even if lotto calls you. Also gives SA as an option or build an LA with super long dtac/berger seating. Also seems to be more accurate than the other two according to most. If I wanted to go a tad slower it'd be a 6x47.

Ha Ha, oops. I hate that too. Kinda got distracted from the original post.
I already by Weatherby brass for my .300 and .257 so I'm used to it lol. I will probably shoot less than a 100rnds a year out of my rifles. I like hot rods so I may go with the .240. Or in a totally different direction , maybe 264 win mag lol. My mind tends to wonder.

I agree - Weatherby brass isn't as bad as many make it out to be, unless you're into the 378 and up sizes. Since it takes $100 to fill up the tank in my truck what's $100 for some brass? Keep my right foot off from the gas pedal and I'll save enough to pay for my Weatherbys.

I hate to be the guy kicking a dead horse but I think I might saddle this dead horse and try to ride baby ride!
Some times when I think about long range hunters who do not reload. I wonder if those same people take the 2 hour walk to see if they cleanly missed their target 1272 yards and three drainages away with their corlokt bullets?
I have a lot of friends who shoot the 240 and love it!
My very minimal concern would be the brass for the 240 which can not be made from something else. This would not stop me I just do not have the Weatherby bug.
I recently purchased a sps 243win to learn something on the 24 caliber, and rebarrel latter. I am sick of the forgotten 25 and the very few high BC bullets. I was dead set on the 6mm-06 with an 8 twist......mmm 115 DTAC!
The 240 weatherby's that two of my close friends shoot are Weatherby rifles that have a 1-10 twist if that means anything to you
