Time To Rebarrel My Accumark

I have a Weatherby Accumark in 30/378 that I have burned the throat out on. I am debating what caliber to rebarrel to. I like the 30/378 but the tendency to be hard on throats bothers me. Any other caliber suggestions that I should consider? The 338/378 is high on my list of choices. I do have a lot of 30/378 brass and dies so I hate to part with that as well.

I'm headed in the same direction as you with my 30-378 as well and have been thinking the same thing, the only thought that has crossed my mind is to chamber in the 300 Ultra with a 28" tube, it should match the 26" Wby velocity but have much cheaper brass.......you could have it throated to shoot the 230gr VLD in either an UM or Wby and keep with with most of the 338's out there.

My accumark has about 900 rounds but is still shooting great, about how many rounds do you think you fired before it was toast?

This is easy for me. I would barrel it in 338 Lapua in a heart beat. Best brass known to man and that action will feed them perfectly. Good barrel life and the ability to take elk a long ways. New fluted Hart tube 28" long, same contour as the accumark, 1 in 10 twist, and a JP brake. Bed her in solid and get a Near rail to mount a Nightforce on.

Sweet rig!!

Thanks for the suggestions. I have to admit that the 338 Lapua did not cross my mind. I will check the specs on a 338 Lapua AI

I have somewhere around 2k rounds through my 30/378. It was shooting fairly well and all of a sudden accuracy just disappeared. I looked down the throat and it looked like crocodile hide with pieces missing. I am actually pleased I got this many rounds out of it. I always let it cool and seldom shot blistering loads with light bullets. I have heard that others have seen erosion at less than 500 rounds.
