Ok im pretty set on the 700 sps tactical in .308...Now im just wondering what scope to buy...rings and base... I would like to use this rifle to hunt possibly 300-350 (depending on how comfortable/ and good i get with it) yards on white tail sized game and a little bigger....and i would also like to take it out and be able to blow some milk jugs up at 500 yards... I am a college student so money is tight...(maybe spend $400 on a scope) and would i want mil dot or what? New to trying to shooting ranges that far...so any help would be great...Thanks Logo

Check out the Nikon Buckmasters line. they are really good scopes and should fit your budget nicely

Ok ill take a look at those...I was also looking at the weaver grand slam... What recital? and scope adjustments should i be looking for? 4-16 i was thinkin would be enough to do what i want??

The weaver are also really good scopes. as to which reticle, it depends on what you want to do. but regular Duplex would work for your uses, or a BDC reticle. for shooting out to 550 at targets, a 4.5-14 or 6-18 should work just fine. I'm pretty new to shooting too, and I'm going off of what I have used. I had a Buckmasters 4.5-14, and really liked it...only sold it when I was upgrading

Thanks for the help...i just dont wanna get a scope then have a *** or need a different reticle and have put out 400 bucks and not get what is needed

So there is no need for mildot? Because you have elevation/windage turrets?? and there is a nice price difference

Vortex makes great optics. I personally think they are more than worth the price

The milldot would still be good for fast adjustment but personally i would rather site my rifle in and know exactly how to dial it in! Correct me if I am wrong but pretty sure those mildots are only correct at certain magnifiactions!

yes, the Mil-dots are set for a certain magnification on a SFP scope. However, they usually list the subtensions so you can do the math to figure things out at other magnifications

That is a great price on that Vortex, wish I would have seen that a few days ago. I just orderd a Bushnell Legend Ultra HD for my daughters .243 project I am doing for her Christmas present. I read a couple pretty good reviews about them so we will see. I chose it for the good price and light weight.

Another option you might consider is the Hawke Sidewinder 30's. Been reading extremely good reviews on them. Thing with those is you will get alot more features for the money. Look for a poster on here that goes by Bruce_Ventura or something like that, He is a sponser here and carries the Hawke's.

I have the exact same rifle. I have been using SWFA scopes. I shoot a lot of prairie dogs with a fixed 10 power. clear and repeatable. For the price there is no equal. Look how long those scopes stay on the classified here. I would have to say if you bought one in mil-quad and didn't like it, I as well as probably 20+ more guys would give you almost what you paid for it. I have more info for this wonderful little rifle. if you're interested, pm me
