Thinking of getting a Nightforce 3.5-15x 50 NXS or a 5.5-22x50 NXS
ZERO STOP

Used for bench rest , hunting and long range varmit.

Pros and cons on the many reticles? Anyone have experience?

I purchsed 5.5-22x50 with the NP-R1, I was concerned that it would be to "busy" I an a beginner and I do not feel like it is .

I had Alot of time at work to research what scope I wanted. Just to save you some reading time, get the Nightforce and the reticale wont matter. its a shame they dont ofer a more basic cross hair, since they are made to dial so well.

That depends on how you use your scope. A lot of people, hunters and competitors alike, use their reticle to hold for elevation, windage, or both. Having lines at known increments aids in the proper hold for whatever the shot is.

If the OP is used to thinking in MOA, then I'd suggest either the NP-R1 or NP-R2 and MOA turrets to match the reticle. If you are new to these things, there are huge advantages to having your reticle and turrets match (MOA/MOA or MIL/MIL).

I use a NF 3.5-15X50 with MOA turrets and MLR reticle because that's what I've grown up with so to speak and don't have any problems with this system. You really need to consider the reticle and turrrets together though, so pick which ever system you think you are more comfortable with.

I agree with gebhardt, the NP-R1 of NP-R2 with MOA turrets. I have one on my .308 and another on my .300WM. I went with the NP-2DD on the .223.
Great scopes.

If your going with an moa Nightforce, go with the newer MOAR reticle. It's their best reticle for a hunting application that they have. Yes, I have one and think it is better than the npr-1 and 2 reticles, but just a bit thicker crosshairs. You won't need the really thin line reticles if it's going on a 308.

Dave762 is the guy you met over here. Broz Does a shoot at townsend in the summer, but maybe we can get him to let us burn some powder on rigs with NF glass (hint hint)

For some local advise follow his posts!

Roo has a 3.5-10 with a first focal plane reticle that we could warm up the barrel on!

Go with the MOAR IMO . I have used them all, npr1 & 2, mlr, and the MOAR is my favorite. I have it on a 5.5-22 and its awesome. It's true the reticle is slightly thicker than a npr1, but I have used it out to 1200 yds with no problems . This reticle is great for all but the extreme long rang guys (out to ~1800yds).

Thumper: I have a Remington 5R-308, & I have a NF NXS 5.5-22x50 mounted on it. I went with the NP-R1, & have been very satisfied with my choice! Some say it's cluttered, but, I don't feel that at all. Possibly the MOAR would be better, But, I do like my NP-R1 very much. Just my $.02 worth. Idaho 5R
