I am currently getting started in long range shooting. I will be using a savage 11/111 bth .308. I think I would like to start out with a sightron. My question is-is there really that much difference from the top end of the 32 opposed to the 24 to justify the extra cost of the 32? I have read that there is not!! Any input at all would be appreciated!!

If your looking at the SIII I would go with the 6-24 with either a MOA or duplex reticle depending on your preference. When I was looking at these the 8-32 was not offered with the exposed target turrets, which on that scope are very nice. Plus the 6-24 has 101.75 MOA of adjustment on my scope and I thought the 8-32 was less. I have not been out shooting at targets, steel, or anything where i wished i had more than the 24x power of that scope.

I think that for a hunting rifle, the 6-24 would be better. I have a different 6-24 and it works great for my needs.
Thanx for the input guys! I guess I neglected to say that I will be primarily shooting at targets, steel, paper, ect.. also I would love to have the moa if I need it, as I am new to the sport I would like to try and put it out there as far as me and my equipment is capable of doing!! I plan to upgrade as I improve! So being a starter do you guys think the SIII is the right choice?

I have the S-III 8-32X56 LRMOA on my 300RUM and love having the higher power to read mirage down range if needed.gun)

Bought a Viper PST, same price range. It was basically a flip of a coin. for my shooting, which is mostly limited to 600 yards, the viper was a little better for me. The SIII has more MOA for adjustment, 100 vs 65. I can get away with the Viper out to 600 no problem. Either one is a very good scope, in a comparable price range...the Viper is a little less in second focal plane, cant remember the pruce for FFP
Thanx emn, your info, to me has been worth its weight in gold!! Hey armored, you said, you have the 8-32 have you had a chance to look through and compare the 6-24? As I do not have the ability to look through either of them, as I don't have a dealer near me. I am just making my decision based on my research, and its been extensive and lengthy!! One of the things I heard was you could barely see a diff between them at the top end??!! I am just curious if there is any truth to it? Thanx!!

I would go with the 6-24. It has 100 MOA of adjustment and 24x is plenty of power. Also, the MOA reticle is calibrated at 24x so you couldn't use the reticle on 32x without doing some calculations.

I have not had the chance to look through other Sightrons. Check out the LRMOA reticle the Sightron offers. That is part of what sold me...that and the hours of reviews I poured over before buying one. Get the 8-32X56...The moa is on at 24 and you can never go wrong for LR shooting having more power OR a 56mm ob. At the price there is no better LR scope that I am aware of out theregun)

I was also interested in the Viper PST so I bought one of them as well for my next project, its going on a Farrell 30 MOA base so I should get most of the 65 MOA out of that scope, still waiting for a few parts to finish up though so I probably will not get to play with it until next year, I will report back on the side by side comparison when it gets field tested.
