I'm looking for a .300 Weatherby "cary weight" rifle. Prefer stainless/synthetic rifles, not show pieces, but I'm open to the idea of pretty wood. I want at least a 26" barrel.

Likely I'll pick up an Accumark or a custom.

Who has something "interesting"?

just my 2 cents worth. 300 weatherby powder eater. not very efficient rifle. can get 95% of speed (or more) w/75% of the powder. try 30.338 or 308 norma mag. instead.
just sayin.
good luck!!

Good points. From a theoretical point of view I would agree.

As I already have .300 Weatherby dies & several hundred rounds of .300 Weatherby ammunition, and I do like the performance of the .300 Weatherby, it makes sense to look for that chambering.

A big game rifle being a powder eater isn't much of an issue to me as I don't shoot many rounds through the larger rifles each year. A small-game weapon needs to be efficient but from my perspective a big game rifle needs to be devastating. I have many choices in the safe if I want to be efficient: .22 short, .22 long rifle, .223, .243, .25-06 (that I most often carry), and .260. Then I jump up to the less efficient: 7MM rem, .300 Weatherby, the real powder burner: my .338/378 Weatherby mag., and a .375 H&H.

I have a 300 wby mag vanguard. It has the synth stock, but its not stainless. Too expensive for me to shoot. I would consider trading for a 308 heavy barrel or similar bolt gun. Let me know Jim @ 610-342-7937

The Vanguards only come with 24" barrels & a cheap stock I'm looking for at least a 26" barrel and a good composite or laminate stock. Only things I've got that I might swap for it is a Savage .243 or an Interarms Mini-Mark X .223. Neither is pretty but both shoot phenomenally well. If I did a swap I would likely rebarrel the Vanguard with a 28" barrel in .264 Win mag, change the trigger & buy a new stock.

You could rebarrel the Vanguard to 7 MM Rem mag and cut your ammunition costs drastically.
