Electronic Hearing Protection???????

I purchased a set of Howard light Electronic hearing protection muffs ? I havent opened them yet , thought I should ask you all what you use and if these would work it says that it will magnify low level noises so I plan on hunting with them and not taking them off . I have had two bucks sneak upon me and I couldnt get my hearing protection on so buck fever got the best of me and I shot anyways . 3 hours later my ears was still a little ringy (not good) . I have a defensive edge 4 port brake on my rum so its pretty darn loud . ( I love the brake)

I have a set of Peltors that I realy like, I have not hunted with them but they work at helping me to hear range commands. Nothing like having the RO ask do you want a shoot over, and me coming back with "no not shooting a Stoger".

I have two sets of the Howard Leight Impact Sports, one mine and one issued. I wear them all the time hunting. They amplify sound, protect my hearing, I can plug in music and they keep my ears warm when it's cold outside.
Plus they fit under my ACH (helmet).
Just don't get them wet.

The Peltors are much better sound quality wise, not as well built as he Howard's though. If going to hunt with then invest in some that fit in he ear.

I may be taking the Howard lites back for a refund . I am going to make sure the batteries that came with them are good tho ? I cannot tell any difference in the volume control at all for the noise levels . I already had a pair of normal ear muffs but decided to get the electronics for hunting . I will keep this thread updated.

I have a set of howard leight's that I've used for about 2yrs now. I love them at the range, but I won't bother to hunt with them on again.

At the range, it's great to have have the music and you can still hear range commands or have a conversation with someone without having to remove them. I can hear perfectly even when wearing plugs under the muffs. You can even eavesdrop on strangers down the line, not that I would ever do such a thing, of course.

As far as in the field, I had alot of problems with them. I won't sit in a blind, and walking with them on results in rather obnoxiously loud noises with every step. It does make game easier to hear, but I had a lot of trouble determining where the sounds were coming from. Direction is not terrible but distance is tricky. Not a problem if you're hunting antelope in short grass, but it drives me crazy in the woods. To be fair, there is a complicated and highly scientific solution to those problems. Reach up and either take or turn them off.

Seriously though, they are totally worth picking up a set. I just don't see any reason to carry them over a pair of regular old earplugs when hunting.
