I just ordered two boxes of 300 grain .338 accubonds with a bc of .724 for my 338 RUM!! I am very excited. Has anybody had a chance to try these at the range? Any load recommendations for the .338RUM?

I also ordered a box of 168 grain Nosler ballistic tips with a bc of .490 for my 308. What are your opinions no these for long range shooting?

Don't know how the .338 bullets will fly... but they will be good hunting bullets, for sure.

Nosler tends to exaggerate their BC's, in my experience.

They say the 180 grain BT's have a .500 BC... I sent them from a .308 making almost 2700 fps and they came in drunk at 1040 yards, which wouldn't have happened if they'd really been .500's...

The 6mm 87 grain Hornady vmax at a published .400 BC, really does seem to be a .400, in actual use. It flies better than Nosler's 95 grian ballistic tip, even if both are launched at the same speed, the Nosler bullet drops faster.

If you shoot the .338 300's at 1K, post your drop data so we'll know if the published BC is on the money or not.

I managed to procure 6 boxes of Noslers 300 grain .338 Accubonds recently.
Had a new bbl in 338 Edge to break in and loaded a mild 338 RUM load with 250 gr Hornady's and at the same time loaded up 9 rnds with the 300 Accubond to try, used a 338 RUM load, 87.0 gr of RL25 seated the bullet with a coal @ 3.775 giving me an ogive oal @ 3.050, cycled and fed perfectly with a Wyatts extended box mag, did not chronograph the loads... breaking in bbl and fireforming brass at the time..

Used new Rem brass full length sized in 300 Rum Redding die then neck opened up with an RCBS 338 RUM die, stock Rem trigger and plastic factory stock opened up ( unbedded) for an Obermeyer 9.5 Twist 30" bbl in Rem Varmint contour at the time and still produced fair results at 100 yards .

Have since installed a Jewell trigger and still waiting for a Greybull stock from LRH...and Redding 338 Edge dies.....
will be doing some serious load developement with fireformed neck sized brass shortly, so far sounds very promising...

Okay hunting season has been here for a while and I haven't seen any posts as to whether anyone has killed something with these or how well they shot compared to the other 300 grain offerings. Any input on this bullet I don't care if its on game or targets just figure they have been out long enough for some more input.

I tried several powders and settled on H1000 as it gave me the best accuracy in my limited testing, after barrel break in and a batch of fireformed neck sized brass with my new set of Redding 338 Edge dies, my accuracy sweet spot was right at max at 92 gr of H1000,
10 3 shot groups at 100 yards averaged at 1/2" but I noticed some slight shiny spots on the case head, the bearing surface of the 300 gr Accubond is quite long and probably contributes to the quick rise in pressure, to remedy this I coated a box of these bullets in WS2 and then worked up to a compressed load of H1000 for even better groups, after shooting 10 3 shot groups at 1/4" and no shiny spots I had my hunting load, had no time for chrono-ing the loads and estimated velocity at 2850-2900 fps from other sources with similar loads, loaded up 20 rnds and the hunting season was in full swing .....

I was set up for a max shot at 800 yards, but the bull moose did not cooperate and came in close.......
On Sept 19th, 2012 I shot a 53" bull moose at 30 yards and the impact of the heavy bullet nearly knocked the bull over at that range, he tumbled over after a couple seconds and was still after doing the death kick for half a minute....I was really impressed by the performance of the Accubond that close up, no part of the bullet was recovered, there was tremendous shock and organ damage but no bullet fragments were found.. I shot him just behind the shoulder hitting a rib on the way out, but other than that is was a complete pass through with the lungs and liver turned into a frothy jellied red mush, maybe the results would have been different if I'd nailed him in the heavy shoulder bones..... My brother had the exact same performance on his 61.25" bull he took just a few days after (Sept 22nd) he shot his at a ranged 120 yards with a 30-378 WBY Mag and a 180 gr Accubond that was not recovered but organs were turned to mush and the bull dropped where he stood... I would not hesitate to use this bullet and powder combo on brown bear up close and in fact is my load for my fall brown bear hunt with my 338 Edge
