Powder for 7mm Rem Mag

OK guys, I'm trying to work up loads for my 7mm Rem Mag. I tried H-1000, RL-22, IMR-4350, and IMR 7828. I tried these powders from low to high trying to find my guns max load with each and to check velocities. This gun will be used for hunting, so I want to go with the higher velocities but still retain acuracy. It doesn't pay to shoot a 7mm Rem Mag if it's loaded down to .270 velocities in my opinion. I hoped to get good velocities with the H-1000, but it came up a few hundred fps short compared to the others. The IMR-4350, IMR-7828, and RL-22 were close to the same velocity. I threw out the RL-22 because of its temp instability, so I am left with IMR-4350 and IMR-7828. Which one of these 2 powders do yall recommend for the best accuracy? I would like to use the IMR-4350 because it has a slight edge in velocity, but if IMR-7828 groups better, I will use that. Now before everyone says to try both, I am just looking for experience as to which one to start with.

IMR4831 is what I use. Pushes 162's at 3050fps with exceptional accuracy. I found a load with H4831SC that's about as good just uses more powder.

Haven't tried the powders you have so it might not be much help to you.

Oh I forgot, I'm using 150g Nosler Partition with Winchester brass and Federal 215's.

62.5gr IMR 4350 CCI250, I used to use this load with the Nosler BT. It drives tacks, I don't see any reason that a Partition wouldn't shoot very well with it either.

One powder doesn't necessarily group better than another, it's your recipe, Combo of bullet, powder, primer, cases, seating depth all working together

RL22 is one of the best powders I ever used in my 7mag, I never had any issues at all regardless of temp. H1000 likes a heavier bullet than 150s, 160gr -190gr it pretty well out paces most others with the major exception being Retumbo, Ramshot magnum, and supreme 780 also look pretty good on paper but I've yet to try them. If your worried about temp stability the Hodgdon Extreme powders are the ticket, H4831 being a very very good powder for most bullet weights.

I have Found H4831 or H4350 to work great in mine. I prefer h4831. I push a 168 Berger at 3050.

RL 22 seems to push things faster but I found it to be real dirty in less you ran it at higher pressures. Then I ran into temp sensetitivty.

Imr 7828 is the ticket. Unless you can find Retumbo, it will probably be the most forgiving in a 7 mag.

But hunting is about using what works the best. Who cares if the bullet is going 2500 fps or 3000 if you can hit what you are aiming at.

Plus 1. IMR 4350 works very good in a 7mag. A load that I have shot for many years is 63.5 grns IMR 4350, 160 Gameking, Winchester brass, CCI 250 mag primer, good for bout 3050 in a 24" barrel. Havnt seen a 7 mag yet that didn't like it! Just my 2cts.

What was your RL22 load? I have a cheapo 7mm 700 with a Boyd's thumb through stock, and it shoots lights out at 160gr Accubond over 66.0 gr's RL22. I tried it in my friends rifle. It almost got 1moa. Its non free float, non bedded, in factory Savage stock. My bedded 700 will hit 5/8" easy at 100yrds. I only do 3 shot groups but I love it. I tried 120 Nosler ballistic tips with 70gr RL22. It poked through AR500 plate that was 3/8" thick at 175 yards like a knife through butter. Had to Kentucky windage since the POI was different, but it smoked out of there pretty accurate.

When Rem first brought out the 7mag in 1962, the powder was a non canister version of 7828. The closet in velocity at that time was H4831, or the IMR's 4350 or 4831 depending on bullet weights. Today, the Alliant powders seem to have filled a need. RL 19, 22, and 25 all do quite well with lower apparent pressures. Personally, I have used them al, including Hodgon H1000 and Retumbo, l and now have gravitated to the RL series. Absolutely no bad experience with temp issues from 80+degrees,( S FL, ) to 10 degrees,( PA in Dec).

If I remember correctly, I thought I read guys saying RL was no good for temp changes? I picked up three cans of older 7828 to use .
