I want to put a lens shade on my new Leupold. This is a .223 sporter which I will carry scouting fields.

Do you think 2.5 inches is enough? Not looking for a perfect world but since this is carry rifle I am thinking less may be better.

I prefer the shorter shades for carry (1'' to 2.5'') and only use the 3 or 4" for target shooting.

The longer shades load the scope more when rough handling and are subject to damaging
the scope if dropped(Heaven forbid).

J E - Many thanks for the quick reply, that is exactly why I was considering the 2.5 inch. By the way I always enjoy your posts.

If I may ask you another quick question - barrel / bore cleaners, what do you use, regular cleaning and also copper cleaner.

Thanks . I just try to help and keep others form learning the hard way Like I

I use Butches Bore Shine for fast cleaning and break in. And a friend put me on to the
Bore Tech Eliminator and it works when time is not as rushed and it can be left in the bore
overnight if you have to.

Both do a great job on copper fouling and with frequent cleaning, carbon is not an issue.

For badly fouled barrels I use a bronze brush to start with and finish up with a cotton
swab or patch soaked with the solvent of choice at the time. I also like the chrome plated
jags because they don't give false fouling signs (Copper/brass brushes and jags will turn the
patches green).

Who sells the chrome plated jags? I've never seen one. Thanks

Midway has them.

Tipton sells a complete set of nickle plated jags and a complete set of bronze brushes in one
complete set.

They also sell just the jag set.

They range from 17 cal to 45 cal.

The complete set sells for around $30.00 and the jag set sell for $24.49.

Part # 112072 complete set.
part #812503 jag only set.
