Is Varget very temp sensitive. I was shooting today had my rounds out in the south Texas heat for a while. then drove up to the ranch house with the ac blowing cold for about an hour. the rifle and bullets got nice and cold. then when i shot it again it was off by a 1.5 moa low
i was just thinking the temp change may be the answer.

All powders have some sensitivity to temperatures.

The difference is some are less impacted than others.

I have had significant impact while using Alliant powder. The worst was RL17.

They do produce great velocities and accuracy.

I will only use to work up target practice loads where I know temperature deltas over the few months will not cause me POI changes.

For my hunting load in one of my favored rifles the accuracy node was at the top of the pressure curve when temperatures were low. But when the temperature warmed by 40-50 degrees, POI changed considerably and I had stiff bolt. The areas I hunt are prone to these changes occasionally in the same day.

I have switched to more stable Hodgdon extreme powders and historically temperature stable IMR offerings for hunting.

I haven't had an issue with Varget sensitivity. I'd focus on the rifle. Usually my first few shots are high ~1.5". Did it settle down after a few shots?

Varget is a very stable powder...

Was your rifle freshly clean? Usually need a few foulers shot through the barrel to settle it down...sometimes several.

Good luck!

I usually make it a habit to always put fouling shots through my rifles before any serious shooting. I have found this to appear to be more rifle dependent than powder dependent though. I have a couple of rifled that shot to poi clean or dirty. They are rare though.
