this is a copy and paste, but not my actual gun.

I have this rifle. Great rifle. I handload for it and have had it glass-bedded. shot a .15 -3 shot group. At a glance it looks like the same hole! Only complaint I have is that the bolt feed from the mag is finicky; that and there is little for aftermarket support in terms of magazines. Otherwise, great rifle for the price!

You could always up grade to a CDI bottom metal or Stockade bottom metal. Both accept AI mags.

Harry 1... No sir, the bugs would have to line up one by one to go thru that hole!! Most sincere sir. its an awesome group!! Guessing that was a hand load?

Yes, handloads all the way. I was shooting the hornady steel match ammo and it was grouping .5 on average (pretty good for 'cheap' ammo). I didn't like that the steel cases didn't fit as well in my chamber as well as brass; I had to force them a bit every couple rounds. But back to reloading, once I found the correct headspace for my rifle, I was golden.

Overall, I am happy with the rifle. Pretty good for a factory rifle. The only thing I had done was glass bedding. Savage makes a good rifle. I've loaded for the 111 lrh as well, and the groups are well under .5 as well.

how do you check / set the headspace? What is the load / bullet combo you are using? (if you dont mind telling me)

Bigmike I think you will find that 43-46grns of varget or Imr4064 under 168 SMKs at 2.820"-2.835" will work for you, as well as 42-45grns of the same powders under a 175 SMK at the same lengths, or the 178 hornady bthp at 2.915", if you use remington, winchester, norma, or nosler brass. If you use Federal match, Lapua, IMI, or Lake City brass back those charges down a grain. As for the base and rings, I'm partial to the EGW 20moa rail about 45 bucks and Weaver 6 hole tactical rings 45 bucks, for the money they are rock solid. It may take 30-50 rounds for the barrel to settle in, so don't get frustrated if your first few groups aren't anything to brag about, however you made an excellent choice.
