I was looking for a deer rifle in a 243 and found this, it was not my first choice as I was looking for a Tikka or even an older Ithaca. I came across this Winchester and the price, just couldn't pass it up. It has a Montecarlo stock w/black end cap, very nice wood. However I know next to nothing about this rifle except Winchester's reputation. Any and all input would be very helpful, including value, compare to other rifles, and maybe how old it is. The serial number is G1434800. Thanks for all help.

It was mfg'd in 1978 and is a push feed model.I have owned some real nice shooting push feeds.

Not sure of value but if it shoots good, looks good and you like it then who cares.

best wishes

I agree! If it shoots good who cares. Most die hard Winchester fans only go for the CRF actions so the value of those tends to be higher but that doesnt mean the push feed is a bad gun. Let us know how it shoots?

Ya, it's not an "expensive" rifle. I own a bunch of Winchesters from most eras from pre-64 to when Winnie closed thier doors. Some of my favorites have been Model-70 XTR's. One in 300Wby, One in 300Win, & one in 30-06.
I just had my first custom built on an old Model-70 xtr I got when I was 13. Started life as an -06, now it wears a 26" Hart & is chambered in 300WSM!!

You've got a great platform in that Model-70. Hope it's a shooter for you. And, if not, you can certainly make it onegun)
I can tell you that I plan on owning many more ol push feed XTR's for inexpensive L/R builds.
