Ok so I've decided to break down and buy a semi auto pistol. I am looking at the full size glock 20 in 10mm. I have 27 guns and no semi auto pistols. I'm a total novice with these so if you have input that's great. Uses are for non carry, non self protective but solely gun club, truck pistol and hopefully hunting something with it.
Glock a good decision??

What round would you choose and why?
Excellent pistol that you just can't make not work. Not as sexy as some of the newer stuff out there but probably the best selling pistol in the world in for good reason You will probably need a 3.5 pound disconnect for a lighter trigger pull. A set of good sites and possibly a longer barrel,which is easy to come, by to get the velocity up. Enjoy.

I would rock a 10mm! The FBI used this round for a short time period. 10mm Auto - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. My first pistol I bought was a glock 23c in a .40 cal. Great gun which was also adopted by the FBI. I also bought a glock 36 slim line .45 cal which was an awesome concealment gun (I'll buy another). However, I had sold both of them due to needing college money at the time. The only downside to the 10mm I could see would be the cost of ammo and availability. If you believe in all the zombie voodoo, it might be hard to find 10mm ammo on corpses! I have since moved onto a HK USP Compact in .45 and my daily driver the HK P2000sk in a .40. Good luck!
I have a Glock 21 which is a 45ACP. Put a 3.5 trigger spring and a heavy duty firing pin spring in it. Also bought a spare drop in Barstow target barrel. With this barrel it will shoot with my best. I have lots of handguns but this one is the perfect beater. Accurate, tough as nails, big, deadly reliable, ugly as sin. It takes down and cleans up in under 5 minutes. I went with the 45 because I wanted to shoot a lot in order it to master it, and use it occasionally in bowling pin and plate shoots at my club. If you ever reload with hard cast lead, it is not advisable to use the polygonal stock barrel design that comes mounted on the pistol. I went with the 45 primarily because I have a Dillon high volume reloading set up, and a large supply of components. You can get easily accessible, cheap ammo anywhere if necessary. I also like heavy bullets and big holes when it comes to pistols......
had to think about this for a while. At the risk of "stiring the hornet's nest", I must say, you can't run fast enuf to give me a glock. Why ?
I grant that they are prob'ly the most "idiot proof" auto loader made, and as such, are not really great in any aspect of handgunning. can they be made to "shoot" sure, but if you want a good,reliable,accurate auto, why not buy one to begin with? Glock became a household name buy "buying" the LE market and flooding large/med/small LE dept's. with inexpensive handguns that entry level officers cold use without "accidental discharge" issues. The best thing about them, they go "bang" almost every time.

So what is your recommendation then? 1911 style? I'm hard on equipment so thats why I was thinking Glock. But please give me details..

I think there is a big difference between a handgun used for self defense and one used for purposes such a those described by the OP. in the right hands, for its intended purpose, the Glock gets the job done as well as any other handgun. It just doesn't have any kind of character, and looks cheesy.
It might be because i'm old, but prefer a "steel" gun. Have several and use according to what I'm doing, truck/horse guns are Colt 1911 or S&W 9mm.

My hands dorm favorite is a 1911 Colt Combat Competition in 45ACP. 20 years never let me down! Feeds everything, does everything.

Great choice. I have the 20 SF and 29 SF. I find the 10mm much more enjoyable than the .40........different type of recoil.
