Barnes TSX/TTSX vs Nosler Partition

Which is the better hunting bullet?

Unless I missed it, you might explain the circumstances of the vote. Are we shooting fuzzy wuzzies? Big? Little? 500yds? 800yds? 6mm? 338? That would help unless the intent is just to start an arguement, I MEAN DISCUSSION:D

I used a Partition in my 6mmAI for 'yotes (killed an crap load of jack rabbits) etc. With the perfomance of them on a 60yd Badger, I will not be using them for anything heavier.

I killed or seen killed (hunting partners) dozens of animals from jacks to elk, I have yet to see any negative effects; provided the shooter does their part of course.


Then again, as stated in a tra-zillion (that's a lot) other threads. There is no "best" bullet, doesn't exist. Bullets are selected in direct relation to the application.

I will have to give the accuracy edge to the Barnes, I have yet to have difficulty in getting them to shoot. From 6mm to 458 & many in between. The one Partition I did use shot well too, consistent .3's @ 100yds, but that is my only experience (besides the splatter effect).

None of your three would be my choice but between them I'd to with the Barnes.

The Partition is a great penetrater but it's all but useless at long range due to the flat base, BC, and lack of expansion at lower velocieties.

Wildrose what would your choice be? A scirocco (hope I spelled that right) or a Hornady sst or interbond?

SST or Sirocco. Don't feel bad I keep trying to put an extra C in it too HA! gun)

The more I shoot the Sirocco II the more I like them but I just don't have the history with them I do with the Hornady Bullets.

On tough stuff like Elk where penetration can be a Problem I'd stick with the tried and true Interbond over the other two but the SST and Sirocco are going to open better and low velocities going through only or primarily soft tissue vs the Interbond.
 
I voted for Barnes but in all fairness, I have never used a partition. The barnes are easy to load, accurate and every animal that I have shot with them (which is quite a few) have never gone more than 10-20 yds before falling over dead. The size of the animals were as small as a whitetail to as big as a oryx and oryx are some pretty tough critters.
 
My experience with Barnes is limited but I load them in almost every cartridge .243 cal and above and I have a load that shoots 3/4 MOA or less in every gun and my best load will shoot them into a .3 inch group at 100 yards (this is in a 338 Lapua shooting the 280 grain LRX) so I am completely satisfied in the accuracy department.

My dad shot a black bear this spring with his 300 Rum and 180 TSX and he spined it.

My dad shot his whitetail doe last year with his 25-06 with 100 grain TSX at 50 yards and hit it in the shoulder and she ran with her head down spewing blood for about 20 yards and face planted, the insides where torn to shreds and there was a 3/4 inch exit on the off shoulder.

I shot my youth deer last year in ND with my 7mm-08 and 140 grain Ttsx at about 30 yards and she was beded down quartering away and the bullet entered just in front of the hind leg and exited the center of the chest. The intestines were hanging out of its side and she was DTR.

I shot a mule deer doe in MT last year with my 7mm-08 and 140 grain Ttsx at about 30 yards off hand, she was facing me and I shot her kinda low in the chest and the bullet caused so much hydrostatic shock that it tore the skin on the bottom of her chest from the shoulder to about the center of the gut and exited her rear end!:D She turned and fell down a steep mountain side dead.
 
Nosler E tip is my choice. I dont buy barnes bullets since they shafted us hunters in Ca by helping instate the non lead bullet ban. I just wish nosler would start making e tips in 224

I've used both and have had great results with both. Unfortunately here in the socialist state of california we have lead free zones, so I have migrated towards lead free even though I shoot more out of state, that way I don't have to reload a bunch of different loads depending on what state I shoot in. So far I would take the TSX over the partition.

Squeaker, I didn't know Barnes had a hand in that. I have shot a few e-tips but I haven't had time to find that perfect load with them yet.
 
I have used both and both will do a good job. They both penetrate and hold together well. I lean towards the Barnes because they have been a little more accurate in my rifles. Bruce
