I'm starting a build and already have a Brux barrel on order. The barrel is stainless 30" finished Sendero contour. I really like the tatical stocks and on the surface their prices don't seem too bad until you look further into it.

I've been looking at H-S, McMillan and Manners. You can buy a A-3, A-4, or A5 for $400-$500. But hold on that's not the real price. You'll also need a cheek piece, and bottom metal. If you want an adjustable LOP it's going to put it at close to 1K.

So I as I contiue to look around I can't find a tactical stock that is what I'd call a reasonable price. Don't get me wrong I realize that these are extremely high quality stocks, but is there something out there for lets say around $500 or $600 with something close to the same options?

Are laminate stocks near as good as some of these fiberglass stocks?

bell and carlson makes great stocks and are around your price level. laminates are better than walnut, but not as good as a quality synthetic.

Ever looked at XLR stocks? They come with as a detachable magazine an in the end are often cheaper than McMillan and manners.

I personally consider Laminate stocks to be the best. They are extremely stable in temperature
swings, The have better balance with heaver barrels, They also dampen the harmonics of the
rifle when fired better than any other material. they are quite when walking through brush if
they are scraped on something and in cold weather they have the soft warm feel when placed
against your face.

Over the years I have replaced "ALL" of my composite stocked rifles with laminates and without
exception they have all shot better/tighter groups.

I realize that the bedding could be better or some other phenomenon could cause this, But not in
every rifle.

Many will disagree with this and that's fine. It's there/your choice .

There are many good laminate stocks available at a much better price, and several good stock
builders like Joel Russo that can build you a beautiful custom stock that will not only look good,
but also shoot good.

This is just my opinion for what it's worth.

It really depends on your action options. I recently built a rifle off my 700 action and used a manners t-2. I ordered the stock that used the factory bdl bottom metal. and for a check piece I had the smith install a defensive edge check piece for 80$, this kept me really close to the base price of the stock.

I've had laminates and Bell and Carlsons. Both do well when pillared and bedded. That being said, my McMillan is a much better stock, in my opinion.
